Pretty sure those are fondant flowers that could've been picked off in 5 minutes and different ones piped on. Oh well, if you're fine with it then so be it. At least the baby blanket and ribbon on the cake were blue. Definitely not a totally pink cake...
I will post the cake pic today and the only one who works there is the owner and she made it. we traveled to get it and getting a new one in the morning wouldn't have been possible we picked this place because it had fabulous reviews and we were 100 percent sure it'd be perfect.... I didn't make a huge deal of it because my mom **saved up** to get it for me and she thought the pink was pretty and babyish and once she said that I went along with it for my moms sake no one else's. I didn't want to be un greatful or make a problem because my mom would have felt like crap if I ended up with one from the supermarket after all this planning for a great cake ( I'm not saying grocery stores cakes aren't great too it's just the point)
Except this is "supermarket" quality. And how much did your mom need to "save up" for this 9" cake that could have been made in my own kitchen?
Wow... Definitely not the ALL PINK cake I was expecting! Usually all the cakes we deal with come from a supermarket or DQ they come out fabulous and always what we wanted. I'm thinking your mom over paid!
A) I would probably not complain about that cake being all pink. It looks fine to me unless you said blue and green and absolutely no pink. But it doesn't sound like you did.
I'm not sure what makes a cake so much extra money (I think all store bought cakes are expensive no matter where you go). I hope it was filled with 24k gold flakes if it was that expensive. I don't mean to take jabs at anyone's financial constraints but I mean cakes shouldn't really break the bank.
C) maybe you should try pie at your next event. Cakes don't seem to be yor thing.
Was expecting something more from that pic ! My cake I'm positive will be Walmart cake and it will be wonderful! Considering that the girls and myself are all managers there. And our bakers and decorators are awesome !
I make cakes for all the family birthdays myself and have to say I could have done better in fact I have !
sorry I let u guys down but to me it was a lot! she changed parts to blue last minute and for somone who didn't expect a spec of pink it was a crap load to me! whatever it's over and it was delicious
My wedding cake was dropped right outside my venue when the bakery was brining it in. Instead of telling me and going over options, they ran back to the bakery and made a new one. Except the new one was half the size of the one I ordered, didn't have time to cool down and melted from the inside out.
So I had to walk through the room the cake was in to get to where I walked down the aisle and I saw it...OMG right before I walked down the aisle. The fondant was literally falling off this tiny ass cake I paid a mint for. My BIL who was escorting me got really panicked and I was just like "eh fuck it, I can't let it ruin this for me" But seriously, they didn't offer to fix it, half my guests got hot fudge Sundays instead of cake because there wasn't enough to feed everyone. In order to get it out of the line of sight, we had our first dance and immediately cut our cake. It was so weird.
When I called afterwards they were like "send us a picture and we'll think about it" Really? They knew damn well they messed up, they even admitted it to the function hall who had to clean up the cake they dropped.
But then I got pregnant with my son like immediately and I was too sick to follow up. But I did give them bad reviews every chance I got and they did lose like 4-5 brides because of me.
Eh people say that isn't a crap ton of pink, but you know it certainly is NOT blue and green like she ordered. I'd be disappointed too and the adding of the blue ribbon did not a thing to fix the issue.
All I concluded from reading this entire thread is that I need to go buy some funfetti mix before DD's naptime so that I can make myself some cupcakes.

I would have been disappointed in that cake, too.

The flowers look like they are sugar or fondant. The baker should have picked them off and quickly added blue/green. Done and done. Now I am in bed fantasizing about cake.

For those of you that wanted a "crap load" of a colour. This was my (purposefully tacky) baby shower cake my sister ordered for me. I'm having a boy, but can you imagine if I had wanted a pink cake and got this?
She went to this old fashioned bakery that does "fancy cakes" this one does not look fancy, but my God, it was delicious.
tl;dr: OP: This fancy cake was pink instead of blue & green like I ordered, but I took it anyway. M14: You should've made them do it over or refund your money. Can we see pics of the cake? OP: I don't know how to smartphone. Oh wait I do. M14: That cake isn't that pink. Why was it so expensive? OP: ...it was delicious. M14: We want cake.
For all of you spending $$$ on cakes, I second or third the suggestions of pp re Wal-mart bakery. Or Kroger or Randalls. I bought a two-tiered, adorable cake there for Dh's birthday. It was jungle themed. It seriously was like $50 and probably would have fed 40-50 people and looked like something on cake boss.

You are definitely a trooper! Our whole theme for our girl is Purple. Well, the color icing that the bakery chose to use was more of a blueish purple. I was a little upset, but your situation sounds A LOT worse!

The best store-bought pie I have ever tasted was from Wal-mart. It was the fruitiest, tastiest strawberry-rhubarb pie I've ever eaten. $4.
