Two Under 2

Dressing same for family photos? WDYT?

I have 3 girls right now... all three are in the same section at the store (4T/5T, 3T, and 24m). So my problem is the fact that there are rarely 3 SIMILAR, although not matching, outfits at the same store.

So, my options are: buy one or two girl(s) at one store and then drag it/them to other stores so they can coordinate or I can buy 3 of the same dress and have the girls match. Before I always bought the two similar outfits for the two big girls but now that won't work...

I'm trying to plan family/maternity pictures for this summer but I don't know if most people would consider it cute or creepy LOL
BTW the big girls like to dress alike and the youngest doesn't care yet ;)

Mobile users--they'll be 4.5, 2.5, and 14/15 months this summer when we do pictures.

Absolutely in love with our 'big' family!

I'm also a proud Auntie to a crazy little girl, her brand new baby sister, a little man on his way in the next month, and a sweet little mister we will miss forever!!!

  • Lurker here...I was at a Target the other day and it seemed like Mint was the color of the season, there were a lot if outfits that would look really cute together without being super matchy-matchy (in fact I bought two outfits for my DD that would look really cute together on sisters).

  • I come from a family of 6 girls and then 3 boys. We have lots of pictures of just sisters in the younger days with matching and coordinating outfits. I like both styles of pictures, but I prefer the coordinating outfits (sometimes the same thing in three or four colors) best, especially when my parents were in the pictures.

Shop online to find three coordinating outfits without dragging your girls to multiple stores! That is my solution for most shopping these days. I find better variety and more sizes that way.

Until Monday, Carter's entire site is 50% off, and there is a 15-20% off coupon code available too. That might be a nice place to start as a result. I'm actually hoping to find my two coordinating outfits for a spring photo shoot today.

  • I think super matchy is creepy. I do like picking a key color and bringing it all together. We did that at Christmas (with red) & that's what we're doing this spring. I also like more natural outfits....kids in PJs, jeans, shorts, & sundresses. With the girls maybe do one in in a solid dress & tie the other girls dresses into that color.

  • Matching (all the same) is out of date for the most part but of course it is your preference.

I would look for similar items or get something online.
  • Matching drives me crazy. I would just find outfits that go together.

  • I usually just try to coordinate my 2 girls. Like for Easter DD1 is wearing a white with floral dress and DD2 is wearing a white with different floral romper. I don't think taking kids to 2 different stores is really an issue... especially if you have until summer to figure it out.

I bookmarked this site a while back: https://www.linajarmond.com/blog/what-to-wear-guide-9-working-on-your-color-scheme-raleigh-photography/
It has some good ideas on how to pair colors/outfits together with being too matchy-matchy.

  • Another option is to put them all in the same dress, but accessorize them differently. Maybe one wears a cardigan, one gets leggings, and baby has a hat or a bow, even if the accessories are all just white. That might downplay the matchiness enough for you without making shopping an epic adventure.

I just went out and bought outfits for our soon-to-be family of 4 after a friend with kids 2 months ahead of mine posted their first family photo. She had both boys in the same Carter's outfit, but then she and her DH were in not-quite-matching colors. My touch of OCD could not handle it! I think it's the first time I've bought full price items at Old Navy, but we all have the same shade of mint ready to go.
