anyone being treated after + bloodwork for autoimmune issues?

i saw OB yesterday for a f/u from my lap for ruptured ectopic. we had done blood work a while ago to test for underlying issues that would be causing repeated pregnancy loss. he tells me i tested + for ANA with a titer of 1:160 and a homogenous pattern. apparently i also tested borderline for cardiolipin AB (IGM). i asked him if i needed to see a rheumatologist, he said no since i am not exhibiting any s/s of autoimmune disease. he DID say however that these things could be causing my repeated miscarriages. he had already put my on a baby aspirin since before my most recent pregnancy loss, but he said maybe i needed a stronger anticoagulant. as for the ANA he said some people are put on steroids.

has anyone had experience with this? or have had similar blood work results and did IVF? i would love your input about how the doctor treated your situation. i am seeing RE monday and would like to go in knowing some options. one of my girlfriends said her mom changed her diet (no gluten, dairy, etc) after her bloodwork had shown a ton of + for autoimmune factors and she was able to see marked improvement in her numbers. not that i want to do that, as i love my ice cream and bread. i'm just open to any and all information. thanks!

  • Ok, so I kind of have experience, but I was/am being treated for autoimmune issues previously to seeing an RE, with a rheumatologist .  I was not on steroids, but was on medicine for achy joints, pluerisy, and fatigue and butterfly pattern on my face, and my blood checked for my ANA and urine for kidney failure every 4 months.  Even though I am not listed as actually having an autoimmune disorder but they are monitoring me for it.  My RE sent me to my rheumatologist for testing (since it would be covered) and wanted an okay from my rheumatologist to proceed with IVF.  My RE did remove me from all medicines, so I do sometimes suffer but my RE did release me to do IVF.
Not sure I answered but I know a couple other ladies actually are DX with Lupus.  I won't call them out but let them chime in if they want to.

  • thanks for your input @freakyfast  what meds did they have you on? i'm sorry you are dealing with those symptoms, and have to feel them more now that you are off all meds. that's interesting they'd stop all the meds to do the IVF, i was under the impression that they would PUT me on meds. hmm. i am so confused. i think RE is going to think i'm crazy when i show up with 19389345 questions.

  • Well one was/is a anti-inflammatory and they don't want that stuff in your body AT ALL for IVF, it messes with blood.  That is why you can't take advil or any ibuprofen.  I can't remember the names of them, one was called Difleonac (spelling) I would have to check my bottles when I get home and let you know.

  • Gotcha, you were taking Diclofenac. Yeah, that's an NSAID. I remember from being pg you can't take anti-inflammatories like that, i was unaware that goes for IVF treatment too. i guess i am just too impatient to see what monday brings. my mind is racing about all the unknowns.

I am similar to @freakyfast except that I was dx with Lupus a couple of years ago. I don't have pluerisy but I am ANA + but - ACP. I too am tested every 6 mo b/w and urinalysis. So far no organ involvement. I have been cleared for IVF as well.  I am not on plaquenil any more, it didn't seem to help my inflammation.

ETA I have found cutting down on carbs has helped my joint pain.
