Walking???

So my question is when do you count it as your baby walks? LO has taken up to 8 steps but only when I was holding his hands and let go. Does that count? Or is it when they let go from cruising and take steps? I just have no idea what to put in the baby book!

Re: Walking???

  • I'm going with actually decides to walk on his own. DS will only walk if he can crash into something within two steps. Like couch to ottoman. I think he can do it, he's just nervous to actually let go. Sometimes he finds himself standing, freaks out, falls on his butt and crawls to where he wants to be and then stands up again. So I'm waiting for him to decide to stand and walk to where he wants without us trying to bribe him with phones/iPad/puffs etc.

  • I counted it from when he took steps independently without falling on his face.
  • I also waited until she walked without any support, now she's walking everywhere.

  • I think it counts as walking when they can walk unassisted even if they don't get completely across the room before falling.

A walks but will still fall over sometimes, especially when she tries to go really fast. She used to walk around furniture or the walls and only take a few steps, I did not count that as walking. (Then I would just say she was taking steps or walking between/around things)
  • I agree with pp's. ds doesn't even seem close. Yesterday, a nurse told me that babies with big heads tend to walk later. I was like "are you implying something?"
