So, in anticipation of our BMB eventually shutting down (in a year...in two? Who knows?), should we make a social group? No need to post in it until the BMB goes down. Thoughts?
All requests approved so far. Also...even if you are a lurker and want to continue to lurk, request to join so we have a place to go if the BMB ever goes away!
Is it me, or do the social groups look exactly the same as the BMBs? I'm don't really understand the point of phasing one out if the alternative is essentially the same. I guess with the exception that you have to request to join, rather than anyone being able to post..

I think it is because you can make a social group about anything. It doesn't have to be a BMB and you don't have to wait for the powers that be to decide to make a board for a particular topic. And it can be private unlike the regular boards.

Yup, this. Also, I think it is TB's answer to the mass Facebook exoduses (exodi?) that happen. It does address some specific needs - interracial families, specific special needs, etc.

That does make sense. The idea that you can create a group without waiting for TB to set up a board is cool.

I'll definitely be joining. I'm in the FB group, but I like to keep tabs with you ladies over here. *hangs lurking head in shame* Good to know there's an alternative if the BMB goes away.
Bumping this. Just got confirmation that BMBs are going away after two years. Supposedly we should get a warning, but here is a friendly reminder to request to be added to the social group just in case we get no warning.
