Hi, I am pregnant for the first time after 2 years of treatment for PCOS. I had my second ultrasound yesterday - I thought according to LMP I was 7 weeks but the length of the embryo (5.7mm) apparently puts me at 6 weeks. The Dr doing the ultrasound said the heartbeat was 'feeble' and advised a follow up scan for 2 weeks time. The growth of the sac, embryo etc had been good and all other areas including placenta etc are normal as per the scan.
Is it just that its too early to have a strong heartbeat or do I have cause to worry that something is going to go wrong? I am trying not to worry too much but if anyone has been in a similar situation or can help put my mind at rest that would be great...
Re: Weak heartbeat at 6 weeks cause for concern?
Did the doctor say what the heart rate was? The heart doesn't start beating until late 5 weeks to mid 6 weeks, and it starts off slow. It's normal for it to start off in the 80's and have it pick up in a week or two.
BFP #1 5/7/9, EDD 1/14/10. 1/10, DS born!
PCOS diagnosis, went on metformin
BFP #3 on 7/23/16 EDD 3/30/16
their little hearts don't even start beating until 21 days post ovulation or close to that date. I mean it couldn't be too fast.
I'm right at 6 weeks and my Dr. mentioned that the heart beat was a little slow, but its normal because its a brand new heart beat. I have my next appointment in 3 weeks to do a follow up and get the full pregnancy plan.
