Cloth Diapering

garlic

I was reading a blog and got sucked in to clicking on old links, and read somewhere that you can treat yeast rashes with raw garlic. By putting the garlic on your kid in the diaper. I can not for the life of me find that specific article again, but I was wondering has anyone else heard of this? tried it? Besides the fact your kid would smell like garlic all day, I think this would be cloth friendly. I'm just questioning if it would really clear up a rash. I had a friend in college who swore putting a garlic clove in her "environment" would clear up a yeast infection. I guess it's the same concept. Though I never actually asked her for proof of it working.

I love garlic, but I'm skeptical on this one.

Re: garlic

  • I have no idea but had a sudden flashback to the huge box of garlic on @Mapleme's bakery website. If it works, she could have put Monistat out of business!

  • Interesting.

I've put garlic in my ear for earaches and I works really well!

I'm tempted to try this... Do you mince it? Purée? Rub a whole clove?

  • Even if this were 100% legit and proven, I doubt I would ever put a whole clove of garlic in my environment. Ew.

  • @tj1979 I agree with that. Ear and diaper area maybe.... Environment NO.
    image
  • I also have done garlic for ear aches and have had good results. I'm tempted to try it, though luckily we haven't had to battle yeast yet.

@yellowlilly2013 I'm guessing minced, pureed or sliced would be best for LOs comfort. No one wants to sit on a whole clove.

  • For a brief moment I let myself wonder how you would get the yogurt up there in the first place. All I could picture was a very dedicated DH with a straw full of yogurt, and I immediately decided I should instead go see if I've got any good tv shows recorded upstairs.

  • I use garly for a lot of things, but I would never put garly on a irritated skin. It will be painful, and it will made the skin more irritated. Sure garly is great for skin issues but it has to be dry powder or something than fresh garly, for treat skin problems.

  • I remember from a microbiology lab class that garlic has antimicrobial properties, but so does honey and coconut oil and tons of other foods and natural products that won't smell…garlicy.  :-?
  • I also feel like it would be a skin irritant.

  • Ok so after having multiple yeast infections I researched the yogurt thing. Apparently you can dip a tampon in yogurt and freeze, then insert. I also tried eating a ton of garlic and it did not help, however I was not brave enough to insert. Doesn't raw garlic burn? I would be nervous about sticking it near babies sensative areas.

  • These post is making me mad. I don't think people are so stupid to put a tampon with yogurt for treating yeast The yogurt thing is for eating to help from the inside of the body,is the bacteria of the yogur the will kill the yeast.

Um... freezing sounds like a bad idea.
  • Ha well someone has done it and posted the directions online. Not saying I've done it, but it's out there. Google "treating yeast infection with yogurt" and there are multiple sites with directing you to apply it down below.

Bah! They say the same thing about stripooing with cascade and dawn, but that always goes well, right?
