My son is 9 months old and eats oatmeal with a jar of fruit for breakfast and 3 jars of baby food and puffs for lunch and dinner. I have tired some finger foods, but im curious when others stopped solids all together and only did finger foods. What about giving your LO water? My son has started to not show interest in his bottles anymore and we are lucky if we can get him to drink 3 six ounce bottles a day so im worried about him getting dehydrated. We always offer a bottle before solids, but it doesnt seem to matter. I definately think he is ready for food, but im a ftm so im not sure if Its too soon for finger foods 3 times a day.
Re: when did your LO stop eating solids?
My 12month old was never spoon fed. The first time I put a spoon in her mouth was at about 11.5months of age to help with some apple sauce. She fully fed herself solids from the start. She eats like a champ.
There is no right age. If you baby is keen to eat finger foods then go for it. Top them up after with purees if you feel they need more.
As for the formula...I personally would try to continue until closer to 12months to ensure they are getting all they need. Try it at different times, in different settings etc. Water is fine just try to offer after a bottle rather than shortly before a bottle. Watch the diaper output to monitor dehydration...remember food has 'water' too so they get more liquids than just the bottle.
I started giving him a sippy cup with water in it at about 4 months as well and he loves it. He is now 11 months old and eats anything and everything you put in front of him. He still loves his water. I give him puffs and melts for snacks as well. There are some days I can not get him filled up. If I do not feed him "real" food he will want to nurse all the time.
