Anyone knowledgeable about wraps?

DH finally gave me the green light to get a wrap, but I'm so lost!  Our local cloth diaper/natural store carries both Didymos and Storchenwiege wraps.  I've heard great things about both, and they are both fairly similar in price (Didy is about $10-20 more). Any recommendations on which one to go with? Or is there another brand that I should be leaning towards?

Re: Anyone knowledgeable about wraps?

  • I am an OK wrapper but we don't have the same brands here as you guys have so I can't help you there. The Attachment Parenting board has ladies that are incredibly knowledgeable about wrapping and they are very sweet - you should try posting there.

Are you on FB? There are a ton of great groups about baby wearing on there, and some even have wraps for sale/swap. I don't know if she comes to TB any more but @redwood would be a good source of information.

  • I am, which is why I'm curious.  I've been stalking our local B/S/T page for babywearing and keep seeing so many, but I'm hesistant to jump in without knowing too much.  I'm looking at a Little Frog wrap right now for $80, but am wondering if it's worth it to just shell out the extra $30 for the Storch since I know it's a good quality wrap.

  • Storchs are a legendary "workhorse" wrap, but I've heard they can take a bit to get worn in/soft. I have a girasol that I love. Do you live in a warmer or cooler climate?

  • @Gargita, we are definitely in a warmer climate.  Are the Storchs a no-go for that type of climate due to heat?

  • We are wrappers here :-)  I highly recommend trying a few out before buying, especially at this age.  What works for one doesn't work for another.  You might be able to check out a local babywearing group in your area.  Mine has a fantastic lending library and lots of opportunities to try out different wraps at their meetings.  If you're just wanting to purchase a Storch or Didy - I say go for the Didy.  They are typically easier to break in.  You also might consider purchasing a used wrap because it's already floppy (broken in) and easier to learn to wrap with!  Good luck :-)
  • Ah, sorry I missed all of this! We haven't had internet so I was doing this while working on schoolwork at Starbucks last night.  I want to say the LF was 100% cotton size 6. She said to make a reasonable offer, so depending on if it's worth it, I might jump on it(or offer a little less).  I was wanting to do a tandem wrap, but I am definitely worried about the boys wanting down at different times and whatnot. Our local babywearing group has an awesome lending library, but I'm never able to go to the meetings to get one.

  • Good luck with your choice!  I'm coveting a linen-blend for this summer, but @redwood807 is always making me covet the ring slings, too.  #FWP.

I will also add (cause I can't seem to get it all in one comment) that I have had a Little Frog and those things are nice and soft right out of the package brand new. Gosh I miss my LF
I second the Little Frog suggestion!  Great wrap :-)
  • @MandJS I do tandem right now with two Ergos, but it can be irritating at times to have all those buckles.  I've also done one Ergo and one RS, but for some reason I thought one wrap would make things easier.  I think I might just hold out for now until we go for our 3rd.
