PAIF/PAL freak-out over tea

I know that it's recommended to limit green tea during pregnancy because of folic acid absorption, so both pregnancies I avoided it altogether.  However, decaf black tea has been my morning drink since getting my first BFP last July- since then I've had about 1 cup/day until a week ago when nausea set in.  But I just read something about black tea possibly interfering with folic acid absorption too and now I'm in full freak-out mode.  I can't call my OBGYN until tomorrow because I don't have private office here where I can talk.  I know that she said that 1 caffeinated drink/day was fine and am pretty sure that included tea, and that's all I've had- but decaf version.  Has anyone heard about black tea being an issue?  I realize that I probably sound ridiculous, so please talk some sense into me!

  • I haven't heard that.  I've been drinking a cup of decaf black tea several times a week since embryo transfer.  I think you should be fine as long as you are not guzzling black tea all day long.

This. Even if you do go with green tea...just don't go overboard. ..moderation.

  • I can't give any specific insight here BUT I will tell you that I asked my dr to test my folic acid level at some point and he said that they don't do that because the VAST VAST VAST majority of people will not have any issues with folic acid absorption.

4 rounds of Clomid = no response
    IVF # 1 - ET (1 3AA, 4 frosties): 12/22 = BFP

OK thank you, I assume that some of those in that vast majority probably have a cup of tea from time to time!  Hopefully I'm in that majority, I'll probably call tomorrow just for a little more reassurance.
