DH and I are going to Maui in June and are looking for condos/hotels, but not sure what the best area would be. Anyone been there and have a preference? LO will be with us and a out seven months.
Yep, went for Thanksgiving 2012 and loved it!! We had my stepson with us (he was 13 then). Stayed at a condo I found on HomeAway in Kihei. It was away from a lot of the touristy stuff which was great. We rented a jeep and planned our activities around the blue what to do in Maui book (can't remember title - will look in a bit). It was seriously the best vacation ever!!
We were just there last year and stayed at the westin which was gorgeous!! A few years back we stayed at the grand wahalia (sp) but the westin is much better priced! Although the grand wahalia had one of the best pools I have ever seen!
I recommend the Aloha condos at Napili Bay. We stayed there for our honeymoon. We loved it! Not as fancy as a big hotel (we were young and on a budget) but they are really well maintained, have little kitchens and are right on a beautiful beach. You get a fun welcome basket and ours even came with floaties, boogie boards etc.
we've been a few times & we LOVE Maui! In fact my heart has been aching to go, but alas it's probably going to be awhile. Anyway, we always stay in the Ka'anapali area & I personally think that's the best town to be in. Lahaina is the "main" town there, where most of the shops & restaurants are, but it's pretty busy there & not as relaxing of a place to stay IMO. We always visit Lahaina while we're there but we don't stay there. Ka'anapali on the other hand is a little quieter, more relaxed, & has amazing resorts, but it's not too far from Lahaina. We've stayed in both the Sheraton & the Westin - both were amazing!!
OMG! I am beyond jealous!! We also stayed on Ka'anapali Beach!! Any resort there is beautiful! There is some shopping, restaurants, the beach is simply amazing!!! You are going to have the time of your life!
Do the Road to Hana. It was so beautiful! I was a kid when I was there so I don't remember where I stayed. Sorry. Have fun!
Do NOT do this when you are jet lagged and haven't eaten lunch. It will be the worst experience of your life and you won't give a shit about the scenery (I may or may not be speaking from experience haha)

Lol is this the road that is really beautiful but also kind of scary?
I was married " mauid" there and honeymooned. Enjoy i want to go back sooooooo bad. The hike through the bamboo forest to the waterfall in Hana is a must, and stop on the Road to Hana for banana bread and shaved ice. Sigh.....

@ScarlettV I can send you the itinerary I planned out if you'd like. I planned the trip while DH was deployed so I researched the hell out of everything - from which luau was best to which surfing lessons to do to which snorkel charter to use.
We went there for our baby moon. Wouldn't recommend the hotel, they were pretty rude. I'll look up the name. Actually preferred Kauai, we went there for our honeymoon and stayed at the Marriott.
Royal lahania it was. Very rude checking in, she grabbed the pen and rewrote my address because she said I spelt it wrong, umm I think I know how to spell my address. Then we couldn't check in until 2pm, fairly normal, but we'd done a full days work then caught an evening flight 9hrs. So been up 36hrs straight. No air con anywhere in the hotel but the room we couldn't get into so sat in the shade by the pool. But I started to feel really ill, 5mth pregnant, too hot and no sleep. They were so unhelpful. Three times I asked for somewhere to sit down in air con, finally said i was going to pass out and they pointed me to the guest computer lounge that was cool and had a comfy seat. Then it turned out they were redoing the floors in reception, overnight, guess where our room was? Right above reception. So banging ALL night! The manager agreed to a refund that night and eventually we got it but only after lots of chasing.
I have been to Maui 5 times. It is my favorite place in the world! We have rented a the Westin Kaanapali timeshares on the west coast! It's gorgeous there. I'm jealous you're going this year! DH and I are planning on trying to go again in spring of 2015 - I'm hoping by then I'll be done BFing and it'll be easier! Have an awesome time!

Re: Anyone been to Maui?
We had such a blast in Maui. Have fun!
I second Ka'anapali!! We loved it and I would definitely go back. We stayed at the Sheraton Resort and Spa and it was fabulous!

Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone!!
