Prefolds and Snappies

Quick question for you diaper gurus out there....is it a thing for snappies to cause premature wear and tear on prefolds? I have been CDing L since she was a month old and I already have several diapers that are fraying out/torn in some places. I did buy the diapers used, but they were from a diaper service that closed down and were only used max. a couple of times. Is this a thing? And should I look into getting diaper pins instead (this is my mother's recommendation)? Thanks for the input ladies!
