DH and I like both names a lot. I however I'm a bit more partial to Fiona, and he is more partial to Cecilia. MN is my grandmas name. DS is Julian. Everyone whose opinion we ask are always for Cecilia because of the shrek associate. I hope is poll isn't even lol. Thanks ladies.

Re: Split down the middle

  • Cecilia is a pretty name, but said with the middle name (both "S" sounds) just seems a little weird. Fiona is a beautiful name, though, and sounds much better.

  • I'm a nickname person (so is my mom, and my name is not suited to it, and thus my mom resorted to Noodle - wtf?  I had at least one person shout that across a store at me when I was 10.  So built in nicknames essential to me.)  The only nickname I can think of for Fiona is Fifi, which makes me shudder.  Cecilia has Cece, Celia, and Lia.

  • Fiona is an awesome name. The name has been around long before Shrek, I like it a lot.

I love both but I agree with this. Cecilia does not go well with the middle name. I voted Fiona.
  • I love both names but prefer Cecelia with your son's name

  • Like PP have said, Fiona was around long before Shrek, I think you'd be totally safe using it. It sounds really cute with your son's name. I also like it better with your middle name...Cecilia has too many S sounds.
  • I agree with PPs - while I have a slight preference for Cecilia on its own, Fiona is a great name too, and flows better with your MN choice.

  • Fiona's just getting way too popular for my tatse, and I think Cecilia is a beautiful and underused name.

  • Actually my sisters name is Ava but we have called her fifi since birth (brother couldn't pronounce ava so he said fifa and it stuck) I wouldn't plan one very using the NN fifi. I'm NOT a NN person, DS has no nn and I wouldn't use one for Cecilia or Fiona either. Thanks a lot ladies this was some great perspective.

  • I like both names so you can't go wrong! There's nothing wrong with the Shrek association, and while some people will go there, not everyone will. With that said, I like Cecilia a little more than Fiona. I think it sounds fine with the middle name, and it fits a tad better alongside big brother's name.

Really? Everyone that I discuss Fiona with IRL think it's too far out there... And some don't like the association of Shrek because she's "ugly", which I don't think at all, but yeah.

My vote goes for Fiona. It's a beautiful name, screw the Shrek haters.
