anyone interested in a knit along?

The crafty thread got a few of us talking about needing some motivation/encouragement to get back into knitting. Who all is interested and what kinds of things would you like to knit?

I have a cute cable knit sweater coat that I knit LO last year and am considering modifying the pattern for a 24m sizing if I can (you can look in the crafty check-in post for a picture of it).

I'm game for just about anything, though we should probably stick to a gender - neutral clothing item. Also comment if you have an interest in running this, though I'm happy to if nobody else wants to.

  • Hmmm, I LOVE the cable sweater, but maybe we should start with something simpler and get these B's knitting? We could do something like this.

And those of us who want to add color work or something to spice it up, can.

  • That would take me years to make  :-O I knitted a blanket before C was born, and it seriously took me 9 months to make. Granted, There was a few months that I didn't touch it, but altogether I think something like 15-20 hours to make...and this was a pretty dinky blanket.

How about something smaller, like leg warmers or a light weight hat or beret? Or maybe a small stuffed animal or "lovie"?

  • How about some blocks?

    I found some crochet blocks:

    And some knit blocks:

Those that are more experienced knitters/crocheters can make the faces of the cubes as fancy as they please that way?

  • Blocks are cute and a great way to use up some of my leftover yarn!

Alrighty ladies, blocks seen like a good starting point!

How's about this weekend we post a intro to knitting/crochet and give people a chance to do something basic as practice/gather supplies, and start with the blocks on the following weekend? Or is there a particular day we'd like to do a check-in?

  • Ladies, I those blocks are going to require way more finishing than I like.  I am not down for mattress stitching a bazillion (okay, six) little squares.  All four sides.  You're all nuts.

Okay if I improvise?  I'll do blocks, but I'm going to do my own thing or find another (more seamless) pattern.
I mostly chose them because they just involved knitting a bunch of squares ;-)

This pattern is a little more complicated, but only has two seams, so it might be better.
