Pregnant after IF

Being the youngest...(not IF related)

Not matter what I do as a parent I am always the youngest one. I got married at 23 had DD at 24 and struggled with IF at 25/26. I always get looks from people and sometimes even rude comments. Took my DD out yesterday for her birthday to a play place and I was the youngest mom there. Another mom who was pregnant with her second told me I was too young to give DD a sibling! I took classes when pregnant with DD and I was always the youngest by at least five years and DH is a year younger than me. At the RE office I get weird looks. I know other people have been trying longer than we did but we tried for over a year and why would the fact that we are young make us less upset that we can't get pregnant? I know we have more time on our side but it's still painful. We are just doing what's best for us, our marriage and our kids! I just don't get why people have to be so hurtful about something so arbitrary. (We even had a few priests refuse to marry us based solely on our age.) I'm not saying waiting is wrong but this is what's right for us! Sorry for the vent, I think the hormones are starting to get to me.

  • I'm pregnant at 24 and no one has ever made a young comment. You should have a witty funny line to say for when you get these comments so you can laugh them off but I'm not witty enough to think of one lol

  • Gah, that sucks.  I don't begrudge anyone else for finding love earlier than I did, and I certainly don't "begrudge" anyone finding out that they're going to have to deal with IF earlier than I did.  I feel guilty that our journey was so short, actually.  People suck sometimes.  Try not to let it get to you...

  • That's just silly. I got married young at 23 and I am still married 17 years later. It's nobody's business when you get married or have kids. People are too darn busy keeping track of other peoples lives.

I get strange looks because this is my first pregnancy at 40. So I guess we just can't win unless we hit the magic sweet spot :p
  • Just tell them you were lucky enough to get your happily ever after early in life! There's nothing wrong with being young and having it all together... Women say mean things out of jealousy.  It's just the opposite for most of us though. LOL.  I had a cousin tell me (because our IF struggles are kept secret) that if I didn't hurry up and "just have kids already" that my eggs would rot... Really? Thanks for that tid-bit, I'm not overly educated in the reproduction science or anything as most of us are who deal with IF. Sorry for the tangent.. Bottom line is you've just got to do what's best for you & your family.  IF isn't easy for anyone, whether it's your first time around or 5th or if you're 24, 34, or 44...

  • I hear you! DH and I were 22 when we got married and 24 when we got pregnant with DD. I would look around the room at our classes and see the looks. Nobody has ever said anything to me, though.
On top of that, I'm the youngest in my family by a LOT. My brother is 15 years older than I am and my two sisters are 14 and 13 years older. So they think they know EVERYTHING and like to comment and "give suggestions" about everything under the sun. It drives DH insane because he's the oldest in his family. I've had to unleash on them a few times about backing off. :)
