Wonky hcg levels and very confused

Hello all,

This is my first time posting to a Baird and I am very nervous. Any info/suggestions would help.

My lmp was 1/28 so my due date was calculated for 11/4 which would put me right around 7 weeks. I also used an app to calculate ovulation, which now I know isn't that accurate. This is my third pregnancy; 1st one no problems. 2nd miscarriage with complications. Before my d&c's my hcg levels were decking in extremely slowly, it was like my body wouldn't recognize the miscarriage. Had to have two d&c on account of me continuing to bleed for a total of 3 months! Needless to say I am very nervous about this pregnancy. On to the stats for this pregnancy (sorry if I'm rambling)

I had an u/s on 3/11 that showed no embryo just gestational sac and yolk sac. Hcg taken that same day was 8968. Dr ordered follow up hcg on 3/13 it came in at 8956, the nurse did tell me that I was very dehydrated when they took the second hcg and I have read that sometimes that can affect the results. Third hcg taken on 3/17 and it went up to 12000!? So confusing! Had an ultrasound yesterday that showed no change from first one but she did measure the sac (I think that's what they measure) at 5w6d. Haven't gotten the official results from that u/s yet so I'm just waiting on news.

Could I have ovulated later then I thought? Is it a miscarriage? I'm scared to have to get a d&c again because of what happened last time.

The wait is killing me and I was hoping to get a little bit of piece of mind, one way or another, by turning to fellow moms.

Thanks again!

  • I'm so sorry you're going through this!  With my oldest nephew, my sister had a somewhat similar experience.  At the first 2 or 3 ultrasounds, all they could see was the gestational sac.  The doctor told my sister that she had probably lost the baby.  Fast forward 2 or 3 weeks with her betas still rising the way they should be, and she finally got her first ultrasound where they could see the baby.  He's a healthy 4 year old today.  They had just gotten her dates wrong,

I don't know if this will be the case for you or not, but I hope that it is and that everything turns out well.  T&P for you during this difficult time!

  • I'm going through something similar now and I know waiting is a pain! My levels went from 20,000 to 19,000 and now came back at 25,000. I don't even know how to feel anymore. It's been such a roller coaster ride but I wish you the best and hope everything turns out positive for you *hugs*
