When did your baby start teething?

I think Z might be. He has been drooling A LOT, chewing on his bottle, fussier and he's been getting up 2 or 3 times a night the past few days. (He was STTN except for an occasional feeding for the past month.) Dr. google says these are symptoms, but it seems early to me, but what do I know, this is my first time :) When did you baby start?

Re: When did your baby start teething?

  • Our doctor mentioned teething at our 2 month appointment, but we didn't see a tooth until 4 months.  It very well could be teething.

  • Apparently there's a strong genetic component so ask your parents when you got your first tooth. My guy is doing the same (almost 4 months) and I'm wondering the same. He slept like crap last night.

  • M has been super drooly since Christmas. Based on her prematurity, our pedi is thinking she may be closer to 8 months before starts teething. He mentioned that is one thing that really tends to be delayed. That said, my sister's kids were a late teethers, so it could very wellbe delayed further.

  • P started about 5 months and had those same symptoms.
  • DS started with teething behavior at 4 months and had 2 teeth by 5.5 months.  At 6 months DD has been drooly and mouthing everything and spitting up, and got a bad diaper rash...but nothing in the teeth department yet.

  • My son was teething for about 2-3 months before his 2 bottom teeth came up. He was about 8 or 9 months old when his teeth came out. That was the worst for him. He always needed to chew on things, drooling, and cranky...after that I never knew he was teething until he would smile I would see more teeth in his mouth. I heard molars were brutal, but again, he didnt' have issues with molars either. GL!!

  • We *thought* he was teething around 5 months.  He didn't actually cut a tooth until 8.5 months though (and then they tended to come 2-3 at a time!).

At just 3 months it is possible that your baby is starting the teething process, but more likely that they are hitting their 3 month growth spurt.  The drooling is a developmental things right around his age (certain glands kick into gear in the second month...I think tear ducts were another).  Like @theresat858 mentioned, there are a bunch of physical and developmental changes headed your way in the coming months (3 & 6 month spurts and the 4MW come to mind)

  • There have been a few times over the last few months where I was convinced she was about to get a tooth because all signs pointed to it. But so far, at 7 months, she is still toothless. Her symptoms seem to come and go. I figure something's happening in there but then the symptoms lessen so who knows!!!

Firefox has had the same symptoms... drooling like crazy and chewing his fists constantly.  He has had terrible time napping as well. He has what may or may not be a tooth coming in ( he has this white bump in his gum and half the people I ask say tooth and the other half have said not)

I was told that his teeth could "float" and they may appear and disappear for months before they come in permenant

. For D the sign they were imminent was a white line beneath the gums.

  • DD would have lots of drool, a clear runny nose, be very fussy and not sleep well.
With her molars a slight fever and diaper rash.
