Sitting in the waiting room nowhere my special delivery unit scan. I should be done early enough to go into work, but thinking about taking the day and getting my glucose test this afternoon, so I don't have to go on Saturday. I feel bad about missing so much time at work, but at the same time, trying to make my life a little easier. Oh, decisions decisions.
Sitting in quest waiting for my 1-hour draw. Drink wasn't so bad but I was super thirsty. They told me 48 hrs for the results. Anyone else have to wait? Can they tell me the reading right away?
My sono went well! My little guy was hiccuping and measuring right where he should be.
Their only concern was that I have a short cervix. I measured at 2.8 cm and I was told by my dr that they don't start worrying until you hit 2.5 cm. She didn't explain what happens if it reaches that measurement probably to not worry me, but anyone else have a short cervix and know what that could mean??
Just got out from my reg OB appt. looks like my little peanut is not so little. She's already measuring 2 weeks ahead and at 3lbs 14oz. Ahhh!!! And second visit with high blood pressure so know I have to do pre-eclampsia testing. (FX I don't have it)
Hey @hubbs173! Sorry about your shortening cervix but it's good to hear your babe is looking good
So, i actually just got back from my peri appointment to check on my own short cervix. Backstory: my doc has been watching my cervix shorten weekly for the last few weeks, but then last Thursday it went from 2.9 to 1.6 cm, and he sent me to the hospital for emergency magnesium and steroids in case my baby was born early. I was in the hospital til Saturday afternoon, and on top of the magnesium and steroids (to help mature the baby's brain and lungs, respectively), i received antibiotics for a cough that I'd had for a week.
When i was released, i was given a prescription for progesterone suppositories and told to stay on modified bedrest (i could get up to go to the bathroom, shower, and eat, but only for about 15 minutes at a time.) After all of this intervention, my cervix today (Wednesday, so less than a week later) was at 3 cm. (YAY!)
So, everyone's situation is different (and i have no idea what will happen at my next check!) but from personal experience and a LOT of googling, I determined that if your cervix gets below 2.5, they'll probably recommend bedrest at least. You should ask about progesterone; it's the only thing really proven to help prevent preterm labour. You may consider putting yourself on modified activity (taking it as easy as possible, keeping off your feet, etc.) If you know of anything that you do that leads to contractions (becoming dehydrated, having a full bladder, having an orgasm, etc) you may consider trying to ameliorate those things to avoid putting pressure on your cervix.
Anyway I hope this is helpful! It's kind of a wild wooly world out there: research kind of doesn't show a TON of great ways to actually prevent preterm labour, but there are things you can do to try to help or at least make yourself feel calmer. Progesterone is one of those things, so ask your doctor and of course feel free to PM me if you have any more questions. I got so much love and support from the ladies here when I was in hospital that I am super eager to return the favor to anyone who needs it!
Thanks so much for all the info!!! It was really helpful!!!!! I kinda figured that if it gets to 2.5, I'd be at risk for preterm labor and put on bed rest. I plan on doing some googling tonight. Fx everything looks good next thurs at my recheck sono. I'll keep everyone posted!
Re: Wednesday Appointments

@mia081081: my lab had my results within 12 hours. I signed a release form and picked them up the next morning.

Also, my doctor made me feel like a fatass and I kind of want to cry. And eat cake.
