Pregnant after IF

Headaches

Anyone experiencing (or previously experienced) severe headaches?? Everything I'm reading is about the "decrease or elimination of caffeine causing headaches", but I was completely off caffeine for a good 6 weeks before I found out I was pregnant and my headaches just started around 11w. I don't want to take Tylenol often, but they are coming daily and are strong (borderline migraine at times). Anyone with tips or suggestions? Thanks!!!

Me:Hypothyroid DH: Type II diabetic. Together since 03/2007, Married 10/2011, D/C bc 10/2011. TTC: 11/2011. Charted BBT and CV along with OPK 10/2011-02/2012 Baseline labs 02/2012 WNL, SA 03/2012: botched sample by lab - destroyed hubby's confidence. 04/2012 Clomid 05/2012 Clomid 06/2012 Clomid 07/2012 Clomid and Ovidrel 08/2012 Ovidrel (I never knew that I was supposed to be monitored while on meds...I never was. I asked for u/s and other tests to see why we weren't getting pregnant, doc just kept giving me meds and telling me to go to his church for a "laying of hands") Stopped all monitoring/testing/temps, etc, Sex became a chore and we started to grow apart. At 12 mos I decided to look for another doc. 02/2013 consult with new doc....3 days later testing began...u/s, all good, HSG: all good, labs: all good, ovulating, etc. Started on Pregnitude. 04/2013 failed attempt for SA, 05/2013 failed attempt SA. 12/2013 SA: 3% morph, abnormal functionality. DH started Pycnogenol. RE consult 01/15/2014.

ALL Welcome :)

Re: Headaches

  • I have horrible head aches! honestly a cold compress and I even sometimes put ice wrapped in the towel and laid it over my eyes or temple or where ever the head ache is coming from and that has helped me limit the Tylenol. Although I did give in to Tylenol if the head ache was really that bad because my OB told me if its a really bad head ache and Tylenol isn't fixing it then I had to call his office. I hope you feel better soon!

  • Definitely talk to your dr even if you find something that works. Sometimes I drink a can of coke if my head hurts and I can't rest (like if I am working or my DH isn't home so I have to watch my DD). I have had headaches since before pregnancy but going off caffeine has made them more frequent. You can have a little caffeine each day so a can of coke when your head hurts would be ok as long as your dr hasn't said no to the caffeine. Also it isn't enough to cause a headache by not having it if you don't drink it everyday. Tylonol and coke together I think of as pregnant Excedrine when it's really bad! Hope this helps and you feel better!

  • I started getting HAs in second tri. I had been off of caffeine completely for months, but resumed caffeine at this time. My doctor said 150mg or less is safe. I think a 12 oz of coke is about 50mg. Caffeine does help but for me the only thing that REALLY helps is acupuncture. For me, stress makes things much worse as well! Good luck!

  • Terrible headaches here and I still drink caffeine. Nothing much seems to help except taking it easy. Not a fun side effect!

  • I have had a few migraines since the BFP - one of them was so bad I was throwing up. If it is a severe one, I drink a cup of coffee and take Tylenol. If it is not a migraine yet, I often try the coffee alone. But the Tylenol and caffeine is 2/3 or excedrine migraine. I also like to put some peppermint oil on my temples, behind my ear lobes, and on the back of my neck.

all of this helps, but it still isn't my imitrex. Some days I really miss that stuff!

  • As PP mentioned, a little caffeine and Tylenol was recommended by my OB. I didn't want to take the Tylenol but they told me I had to try it and if it didn't work, I needed to come in (I was gettig them often). I only took it a handful of times- but it worked most of those times! I tried to drink a ton of water as well and that helped me too.
