What crib are you getting/do you have? My mother in law has very kindly offered to buy us any crib we want for the nursery as long as it's within the $200-500 range. We know we want something made of dark wood that is safe, sturdy and converts into a toddler bed. We had one picked out at Target, but then found out that the conversion kit is sold separately and is very difficult to come by. We are now looking on Amazon, Overstock and other online places, but I thought I would ask you lovely ladies! Do you LOVE your crib? What kind is it? Should we get it? TIA!
We have a Graco Lauren. We like it and it had served us well.
We just bought two of these Graco Laurens in Espresso. DH put them together and they look great. They are convertible but it's all included. We got them on sale at Walmart for $150 and the mattress was included. It was what we found that worked best for our budget (needing two) and they're awesome!
Now if I had someone offering to buy one between $200 and $500, I'd probably find something a bit fancier
we also have an espresso Graco Lauren, got it on clearance at Target. no issues. it functioned as a crib and as a toddler bed (4th wall taken down) for J and now it's back to crib formation
We chose the Storkcraft Portofino Crib/Changer in Espresso. Love the color, it's dark with a hint of cherry. I like Cherry furniture, but dislike when it is too red/orange (for lack of better description). This model included the toddler rail and does not require seperate rails to be purchased to turn into full size bed, just attaches to a standard metal bed frame if you choose to convert it (changer can eventually be repurposed as a free standing end table).
We have chosen, but not yet purchased, the DaVinci Kalani convertible. We are getting it in white, the picture below shows cherry and I think it comes in espresso as well. We read a lot of good reviews on the DaVinci brand and it's only around $200-$220 on Amazon!
My mom just got ours ordered a few days ago and this is the one we picked. Its from BRU, called Verona by Sorelle. Its currently on sale for 20% off so my mom snagged it up. I love the fact that the front dips down because I'm short and it will be easier to reach in. It has really great reviews online so I felt confident in the purchase.
@enigmasara (and OP) we have the DaVinci Kalani crib that we purchased off of Amazon and have liked it. And actually my grandmother bought it for me. It's very sturdy, easy to move the mattress position up and down, and looks nice. BFF has 2 of them, one for each of her two girls, and has also really liked it.
It is solid, classic, and crazy easy to put together.

We are planning to get the Baby Mod Modena. It's about $200 from Walmart. We liked that has a modern and simple look and is non-toxic solid wood. (Sorry can't make clicky - I'm mobile right now)

we got the eddie bauer langley crib and dresser from target this weekend. last week if you spent 500, you got 100 off nursery furniture. we put it together and love it.
we went with walnut because you cant see scratches as much as on cherry or espresso.
So do most people recommend convertible? We planned on it but two people my hubby talked to told us not to get convertible, but I'm not sure why.
I have heard people say they never wanted one but personally I love the idea. As long as you buy the toddler and bed rails when you buy the crib you will be good to go. If you wait they will probably end up discontinued before you ever need them. Back to the crib, I love the fact that you dont have to go out and buy a different bed when they are old enough for one. So much easier. A guy my husband works with said their crib got really banged up and they didnt wanna convert it because of the scratches, but really as long as the dog didnt chew it who cares? A couple imperfections arent going to keep me from converting the crib.
After 6 losses, we are so happy to have our rainbow baby!

If you plan on having kids close together, it kind of defeats the purpose to buy a convertible because you might still be using it for the previous baby.
That said, I LOVE my convertible. Even if E is still in the crib and I have to buy a second, I'll still get a convertible. I like the ones that we can some day use as full size guest beds.
Another Graco Lauren in expresso here. Great crib, my son used it for 20 months before switching to a toddler bed. We could have taken the side rail down and continued using it but we found a super cute car bed that we replaced it with, so now it will be the crib for baby 2.
It's a convertible, and we love it. It's incredibly sturdy and DH put it together in no time flat. (he used to assemble things for displays in a Home Improvement store, so he's got a little practice. but even if he hadn't I'm sure it wouldn't have taken more than an hour.)
We plan on getting another Graco (I'm just a HUGE fan of Graco pretty much everything) convertible for this LO maybe not the same style, but definitely in cherry. This color is absolutely gorgeous, rich and dark with just enough red in it that it doesn't look chocolatey.
This was our first crib, and I love it, but I have to say, it's probably not the best for more "fun size" parents, my husband and I are both six foot so it's no problem for us to lay ds down on the lowest setting, but I'd imagine it's a little more difficult for shorter folks. When I've had a particularly long day sometimes I end up propping my rib cage on the side of the crib when I'm putting ds to bed... it's a wierd little motion, not sure how else to describe it, I'm just trying to say the sides are a little high when the mattress is at its lowest.
Oh yeah, another good thing about it real quick, it came with the only tool you needed to put it together, and I took it apart and put it back together by myself when we moved. Easy peasy

that's the one we were planning on getting, but were told by my sister in law that the conversion kit for making the bed convertible is impossible to find and sold by absolutely no one. I just love the way it looks!

We have the DaVinci Kalini 4 in 1 convertible crib in cherry and love it. It was easy to put together, I did it at 34 weeks pregnant by my self. It's on sale on amazon right now for about $200. It has different levels for the mattress and is easy to lower. I can still put DS down to sleep in it with my bump, but he can't climb out.
Were you able to find the conversion kit for this crib (Eddie Bauer langley crib) because I just purchased it and absolute love it but in order to make it worth it I would like to be able to convert it. I have no idea where to look to purchase it.
We got the Kendall crib from Pottery Barn kids in White. It's beautiful and I am extremely happy with it. What I like even more is there is a "low profile" version for short moms, so it's 3 inches shorter and easier for me to reach into!
So do most people recommend convertible? We planned on it but two people my hubby talked to told us not to get convertible, but I'm not sure why.
Convertible all depends on if you want to deal with a toddler bed. It's all about personal preference. Personally I won't do a toddler bed again (got one from SIL for DS). It was a pain because I couldn't lay in bed with DS and had to sit on floor to read books/comfort him. Next time I'm going straight to twin bed with bad rails.

@kbenson2590, no we weren't able to find it, after much research. We ended up going with the DaVinci Kalani crib that @enigmasara and a few others recommended.
We also went with the Davinci Kalani crib in espresso. No clue as to how it is to put together since it's still in the box, however I liked it because it seemed to have less toxins in the paint than other brands but was still a reasonable price.

@jendem8 my husband said it was incredibly easy to put together. He had it done in about 20 minutes. I liked that aspect of it too.
The Graco that everyone's posting looks nice. We got a Storkceaft, can't remember the model and warning: the top rail on the sides is so deep that we can't mount a mobile! Did not think about that when buying and it's been a real pain in the butt.
I'm a FTM, so I don't have any experience with a baby in this crib, but we went with the Delta Bentley series (I got a version is a rounded top that I love, but I don't see it for sale anywhere anymore....we snagged it from BRU when they had it on super discount). I love the look of it. We got the dresser, too. Only complaint is that the dresser had a very strong smell....but after putting boxes of baking soda in each drawer and airing it out for a month, it's gone away. Otherwise, loving it!
We got ours from Pottery barn kids. They have a lovely crib for $399 it's called the Kendall
We have the same crib and LOVE it!!!
Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses.... All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!
We honestly just got the Jenny Lind crib from BRU even though my ILs were offering to buy. https://www.toysrus.com/buy/convertible-cribs/davinci-jenny-lind-3-in-1-stationary-crib-white-m7391w-4033738 It was what we were planning on buying ourselves and I didn't see any reason to go more expensive just because it wasn't our expense anymore. I'm thrifty to a fault and I love that both DH and I had cribs that looked just like this as babies.
But I have had no issues with it and this will be the 3rd baby getting it. I think it had a conversion kit option, but we opted against it. We've used it as a toddler bed twice and just move the kids out to a bigger bed once they are ready. I'm glad we didn't end up worrying about the conversion kit because we'd like never use it. Our future plan for the bedrooms includes beds we already have without needing that kit.
The only down side I can think of is that the crib doesn't support a full sized adults weight. I know some of the higher end cribs do. So, we were never able to snuggle in with a kid in a crib to get them back to sleep, but that never was a big deal.
