Is it just me?

Please tell me this is not just me that is going through this!

Does anyone else have a LO that gets irate when you go to show them how to do something? I was trying to show ds how to dip a paintbrush in water and then into watercolors. He got mad and started to fuss and smack the painting. I'm guessing this is a phase and he will grow out of it. :/ He does this with other things too. He is very independent, but he has to understand that some things have to be shown to him, so he knows how to do them.

DD2 is not like that she's a much calmer person than my first.
But my 6yo has always and still does this.
I think the best thing you can do is model how to do something and then let him figure it out on his own. It can be very frustrating!

DD isn't quite this bad but definitely has an independent streak! What if you (in this situation) gave him what he needed and then also did it yourself so he could see? I.e. give him paper, paintbrush and water and then sit next to him with your own and paint, so he can see you doing it but you aren't "showing" him?
