Frustrated and Confused..Why can't this be easier??

So yesterday I went in for a follie scan on CD11 which is the norm for me, my follicles are ususally 18+, my lining around 10 and I trigger that night.  I have never triggered later than CD12.  And I believe that I have never ovulated later than CD14.  I am currently on Clomid 50mg and have used it 5 cycles before although the last 2 cycles I used Follistim.

So when I went in yesterday, I had 3 follicles size 12-13mm and my lining was 6. WTF?? The RE seemed confused as to why my body wasn't ready as usual.  She said that I will likely not ovulate until Saturday (CD16) if at all this cycle??  I was so upset and confused by the if at all, I have never not ovulated even on my own.  She acted like it was the weirdest thing and that my body just wasn't doing what it should be doing.  I know that CD16 is late for me but is it really that unusual??  The nurse said for someone who ovulates earlier that it isn't a good sign to not have follicles farther along at this point.  So I guess all that I can do is hope that my ovaries will get in gear.  I asked what could cause this and she said nothing in particular, sometimes it just happens.

That puts us in another tough situation because my DH is going out of town for a bachelor party on Thursday and will be gone until Sunday.  So if I do ovulate on Sautrday and want a chance this cycle, we will need to freeze his sperm.  But with freezing you lose about 40% of the sample and our issue is MFI so I am not sure it's even worth it especially not knowing if I will even ovulate.  I have another scan on Thursday (after we would need to freeze his sample).  His counts are improving (on meds) but I am unsure if that will be good enough if we lose 40%.  So my choices are: sit out this cycle, freeze and hope for the best, or freeze tomorrow and see what the numbers look like before going ahead with the rest of the monitoring.  We are all out of pocket at this point because we haven't met our deductible yet so I am leaning toward the freezing tomorrow (which is $220) and if the numbers aren't great just not doing any monitoring and just TI before he leaves and when he gets back.  Then we can always save that sample and use it at some point. 

I am just so upset by the thought of sitting out a cycle.  I haven't done that at all since we started TTC.  I guess I just need to vent and talk this out.  Thanks for reading.

Sorry you're going through this, our bodies are so unpredictable. Personally, I usually ovulate between CD 14-17 and my RE doesn't think twice about it, but everyone is different. We experienced a chemical pg in Feb and when I found out my husband was going to be traveling for work March, April, May I got so upset at the thought if missing a cycle, we decided to freeze a sample just in case. It made me feel better knowing there was a backup plan (no MFI). You never know what your scan will show so I'm wishing you luck!

Thanks ladies!!  I really appreciate your responses and it really has made me feel better!  I didn't think it was really that unusal that I would ovulate a few days later but my RE's and nurse's responses had me freaking out.  Especially that since I wasn't ready on CD11 that it might not happen at all. I had 3 between 12-13 and a bunch of small ones so I am not sure why they think that none of those 3 will continue to grow.  I have to believe that there is a chance for at least one!  They did tell me that they will increase my Clomid next month or I can switch to Femara if I want.  Hopefully this won't happen again!!

@NariaDreamingI am pretty sure it will upset my DH either way, knowing that I am waiting on his results of knowing that I may be sitting at home ovulating and there is nothing we can do about it.  But the rational side of me says that it's just not worth the stress and $$  to freeze and go through with more monitoring and IUI knowing that the chances it will work are so slim.  I just have to hope that maybe I will ovulate late on Saturday or even better on Sunday when he gets home and our TI then will work out.

@NariaDreaming that story reminds me of something that I would totally do!!  While I would be stressed out at least I would feel like I was doing everything possible.  But in the end even everything possible doesn't mean it will work and given my history, it's pretty likely that it won't.  So I have decided that no matter how much I want this ASAP, it's just not worth jumping through hoops this month.  I am putting it in God's hands and hoping for the best.  That's all I can really do at this point.

@nariaDreaming - your story made me laugh (in a sad way).  Least your DH was totally on board with that and agreeable!  

My sister took me to NYC for the superbowl this year...and of course, I was probably going to ovulate while we were in NYC (didn't know for sure since I wasn't temping).  I felt guilty knowing that was the last time before my RE appointment.  But there was nothing I could do, since she paid for my trip.

@nariadreaming - That is great!  It is crazy the things that we do...

@lillovebug79 - I had the same thing happen.  For 3 cycles my body responded basically the same exact way to injects.  I triggered the day of or after my first monitoring ultrasound.  Then my 4th cycle on injects they told me that because I was so regular, it would be cheaper for me to pay for each visit individually vs the package price.  Of course - I ended up needing 3 days of monitoring/bloodwork.  Luckily, after realizing that cycle was going to be difficult after my first ultrasound, they let me switch to the package or else I would've spent a whole lot more money.  Sometimes our bodies are just weird!

@ky29 thanks, it's good to know I'm not the only one! I'm feeling a bit of pressure today and my OPK is getting darker. I'm praying I surge tomorrow and we can just have TI before DH leaves tomorrow afternoon. That is my best case scenario. It's been about 8 months since we tried this totally the good old fashioned way! Lol! I think my DH is excited about it!

I'm sorry : ( The feeling of wasting a cycle is awful. When I had a cycle with a lining of 5mm, the doctor didn't want to procede with IUI because the chances of implantation were obviously very slim. But DH and I decided to go through with it anyway because I couldn't take "wasting" a month and having zero hope that we concieved.

What i'm trying to get at is, for me at least, having some shred of hope that you could be pregnant is better that knowing the month for sure failed. It keeps me somewhat sane. So I personally would go ahead with freezing the sperm tomorrow and try and get something going this month. FX for you : )
