Care.com nanny???

How do you hire a nanny via care.com? Do you get to interview the nanny face to face before you hire her? Does she meet the twins before everything is finalized? Do you see how good she and the twins are getting along before paying/hiring her full/part time? I'm planning to hire a nanny via care.com, but I have no idea how it works and if they can be trusted. Currently I have different nanny's who work through an agency. I don't like having different nanny and not knowing how things would go. My daughter has stranger anxiety and every time a new nanny takes care of them, things go downhill from there and I get more restless.

Please advice what questions should I ask when I interview a nanny from care.com. I'm new to this and I need a nanny when DH travels. Thanks!

We just hired a nanny through care.com. I wrote a good job description (not just filling out their stupid form, I actually wrote about us and what we want) and we got 40ish applicants. I reviewed them all and did an initial phone call with 10 of them. I asked questions about their experience, what they were comfortable doing and not doing and what their nanny style is like. I also explained what we were looking for. Once I had talked to 10 girls I picked my favorite 3 and invited them to our house for an in person interview. After that we picked our favorite, called references and negotiated a price. She starts tomorrow. You really get to dictate how the process works and you can ask for background checks and references.

  • We got our nanny from care.com and I love love love her!  I wrote a job description and got a ton of responses.  I chose 5 that I thought had the kind of experience I wanted and invited them to the house for a chat.  They all had references that I could call.  I did pretty informal interviews, watched them interact with the girls and just had them talk about their prior experience and then went with my gut feeling about which one to choose.  The woman I chose had 15 years experience and had nannied for infant twins before which I liked. I didn't write up a formal contract or anything with her, but I know a lot of people suggest that. I had a couple weeks before I had to go back to work, so I had her come spend several days with me as a mother's helper just to get a better feel for her.  After those few days with her I felt completely comfortable leaving my girls with her and she has been fantastic with them.
