3rd Trimester

Head Cold

Anyone have any head cold relief suggestions. Im 38 weeks and its hard enough to breath without a cold.
The meds don't seem to be helping much. I tried a Nedi pot but I am so congested it wont even flush.
I would love to get some sleep at night while I still can lol

Re: Head Cold

  • Humidifier + sleeping somewhat upright seems to help. I also use those super sexy nasal strips that football players use. DH was kind enough to buy the clear ones from target so I can still have some shred of dignity ;)
Also, back in my 2nd trimester I had a cold with horrible congestion (it was awful -- 2 weeks of being stuffed with achy sinuses and blowing out blood. Gross). Anyways, my doctor told me I could use Afrin nasal spray but only one time a day for three days total, then stop. Double check with your doctor to see if you can use it, but I kid you not, after 14 days of pure congestion, it finally opened up and I could sleep!
    Good luck!

  • I'm dealing with third trimester earaches/sinus congestion and have been liberally applying mentholatum on/under my nose, on my sinuses and on my neck/ears.

I also use oil of oregano...but this is something you'll want to talk to your doctor about. It can be a uterine stimulant which is obviously not the BEST thing in pregnancy but if you're far enough along/having a healthy pregnancy/are hippy enough to do it anyway, it might be good to take. It's basically an antibiotic without being an antibiotic...reducing the time length of colds and keeping you pretty damn healthy.

The mentholatum though...I can't praise it enough (just be careful not to get it in your eyes!).

    Feel better lady!

  • I am in the same boat, can't quite tell if it's allergies or head cold but I cannot breath for nuthin'!  The Afrin is the only thing that seems to work, and I've used up my 3 days, so I'm sitting here like a crack head staring at the bottle and just wanting to use it to breath again!  I'm 39 weeks, i may look at some oil of oregano.
