BF mommas whose LOs sttn...

Do you wake up to pump in the motn? Now that my supply is "equalizing" and I'm not so damn engorged all the time, I've gone ~ 9 hours max without bf or pumping on nights he sleeps. I don't have a supply problem (yet), and I figure by nature when babies sttn, exclusively nursing mommas also wouldn't be feeding at night. I woke up to pump with my first, but shit, if I don't have to, I won't! I'll monitor my supply of course and add a pump if it starts to suffer.

  • I don't wake up. Your body will adjust and make less milk at night.

  • Simon isn't STTN yet, but I have been keeping up on the Breastfeeding thread, and @AmyG*‌ usually recommends not waking to pump, but trying a dream feed to keep the gap under 8 hours so as not to affect your supply. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

  • I don't pump. If he's not waking for it, he doesn't need it.

  • I don't wake up to pump. I do pump at night before I go to sleep though. Even though it's just a couple oz since I go to bed fairly quickly after LO & I'll have just nursed her, I just want there to be as small a gap as possible. I also pump after the morning feed.
  • I don't wake to pump, but usually LO doesn't sleep longer than 6-6.5 hours. If she were sleeping consistently sleeping 8+ hours, I would probably get up to pump.
  • If you don't need to build a freezer stash for any reason I would not pump.  My first STTN fairly early, 12 weeks or so and we never had any supply issues.

  • I do not wake up to pump and have no supply issues. I AM engorged and leaking every single morning until lo wakes up and eats, but I'll take that over waking up unnecessarily.
  • Just to add, I go 9+ hours every single night (11pm-8am) and have been for about a month.
  • DD goes to bed at 8 pm and I pump both sides between 10:30 and 11. I then pump my left side at 8:15 am and wake her to feed on my right at 8:30.

While I'm definitely full and uncomfortable, I'd rather not get up and pump overnight.

  • Nope I try to sleep through the night too.
  • This lo is not sttn, but with my ds I never got up to pump and he was eventually sleeping 12 hrs at night before he turned a year. Sometimes I pumped before I went to bed to have extra pumped milk for my stash, but I never did a motn pump. Your supply will adjust.

  • I do not wake up. I will pump the side she doesn't eat from in the morning as it's pretty full. Get your sleep mama!
This is what we do, too!

  • I've tried to get up and pump now that he's sleeping through the night but most nights I unconsciously reach over and shut my alarm off. My body knows it needs rest apparently. Haven't seen a supply dip because of it. My supply dips come from stress and not enough water. Just make sure you're doing everything else you're suppose to be doing and you should be ok.

  • Definitely don't wake to pump (not STTN here, but DD1 did at this point). My LC had me add a pumping session before I went to bed at night when DD1 started STTN. That helped build my stash, AND I still got to sleep.

  • I pumped after feeding in the morning but recently we have hit 4 things converging: teething, 3 month growth spurt, 4 month wakefulness, and a wonder week. We went 8 hours at night to under 2... I feel like I can barely make enough now...
