My 22 mo old son was running fever all day yesterday. Before bedtime it went up to 102,5 so I gave motrin drops and put him to bed. I just woke to check on him amd he feels warm. Do I wake him to give more medicine and check his temp?
DS had a fever last week, I have him Ibuprofen which is supposed to last 8 hours but his fever was up again after 4. My pedi said we can double dip so give him baby Tylenol which is every 4 hours. But if he is sleeping and not getting up, I wouldn't wake him just wait till he gets up to give him more medicine, he may sweat it out as well.
I would not wake him. A fever is our bodies response to fighting off an infection/virus and is not dangerous until it reaches a really high temp (usually around 105). However, I would also check for other symptoms which may be more of a concern such as a rash or lethargy. I know it may seem alarming but its pretty normal for kids to have high temps when sick. It might be an ear infection or a virus but just use the fever reducer (ibprofen/tylenol) to help keep him comfortable if needed. If he is sleeping, then he is probably pretty comfortable. It is when he is waking up and can't sleep is when I would give it.
