Nurseries and Baby Gear

Paint color suggestions appreciated

Hi,

We are starting to work on our nursery and we need to choose a paint color. Apparently we missed the cool people bus and don't have white trim on our door and window frames... we have oak trim. I feel like this limits our possibilities on wall paint color.

What wall colors would you suggest to go with oak trim? I'd like to stay as gender-neutral as possible.

Thanks.

  • I wouldn't worry about it. I think almost any color is going to look fine (well except maybe really dark colors). I would just pick your bedding and coordinate from there! I've seen alot of homes with oak or cherry trim and have never thought "oh that paint color clashed with the trim."

Some thoughts are light yellows and greens. I really think that would fit perfectly with oak. Good luck!

  • Wood is a neutral, so I don't think there's any color you could pick that would clash.  But, if you really want white trim, you could certainly paint it.  As for gender neutral colors, my favorite is a sagey-"Martha" green.
  • Any shade of yellow or green would be very nice.  We have oak too and decided to go with a sage greenish- it's a beautiful combo with the oak.
  • We painted our trim white because we didn't like the wood color.  We chose our colors before we found out that we were having a boy, sage and tan with a white chair rail to separate the colors.  They match so well with our bedding.  I love it.
  • We have a lot of stained wood in our home and I've found that light blue really complements wood. Our bedroom has oak floors and doors, but our furniture is cherry. The light blue seems to go nicely with both and it seems more pulled together despite the different wood finishes.

  • I think a sage color would look best and it's definitely gender neutral.

  • Thanks everyone.

I took a piece of the wood trim with me to the paint store and brought home twenty or so swatches to obsess over for the weekend. :)
