Stretch marks

I'm only 9 weeks but want to start using a stretch mark cream that actually works. The parmers and bio oil never worked for me. Any suggestions?

I really don't think anything prevents them. I have heard they are mostly genetic. The biggest issue with them is that it is the loss of collagen in the skin can't be replaced at the same rate it's lost with the stretching skin and that it can't be replaced from outside creams enough to prevent them completely. Just drink lots of water and try to keep off more weight than necessary. There are bigger fires to fight, I would put my energy there. I have them from my DS and they have never bothered me.

  • Agree with @MorseBrooks for this one. Preventing is nearly impossible. Minimizing is what you'll want to aim for. Vitamin A and drinking lots of water are your friends! I use Arbonne's body firming cream since I've had to deal with stretch marks my whole life and it's helped make them less noticeable, but that's the closest I've come.
Married since *7/13/2012* to my soulmate!

Wow. I find it curious that you didn't even respond to the question at hand or offer any advice considering you're so knowledgable about the subject. I'm pretty sure my father didn't go through pregnancy so my mother having stretch marks would be the heredity it could be measured by. Also, I have read numerous articles stating that scratching irritates your already stretched skin and can cause stretch marks.

My mom and sister had stretch marks and i didn't get them with my last pregnancy. I used cocoa and Shea butter, mustela cream and lanolin. My biggest tip is do not scratch your belly when it itches!!

You have a parent other than your mother and you and your sister don't share identical DNA.

Scratching it when it itches doesn't create stretch marks.

Your father can't get pregnant. But your fathers mother can :D

    It's a BOY

  • Nothing. If you get them you get them. Your body is going to change in a lot of ways and a lot of those ways are out of your hands.

Pregnancy isn't the only situation where stretch marks can occur.

OP: stretch marks have to do with skin elasticity, which is largely determined by genetics. Hopefully you're luckier in this area than I was. :) No need to waste money on creams that can't deliver on the promises, just pick a moisturizer that you like.

  • Sorry you're either going to get them or not like PPs said but your skin will itch as it stretches and I used the Burts Bees Mama  Bee Belly Butter. I put it on every night once I got bigger and every time I got out of the shower. It didn't prevent stretch marks and nothing does so don't waste your money but it really helped as my stomach grew.

  • Prevent: you're screwed. Go back in The Wayback a Machine for different genetics.

    Reduce itching/discomfort: coconut oil

I'm not an idiot. I know that genetics is based on DNA from both sides. I was simply saying that a woman shouldn't feel that just because her mother got stretch marks she's bound to get them as well. Both sets of my grandmothers had them, and I don't know many people who know the intimate details of their great grandmothers, etc.
And yes, my children are lucky to have a mother with common sense and who uses sarcasm... Especially if in their lives they have to deal with others who for no reason feel superior and are just looking to be nasty any time they get the chance.

You need to check yourself. Folks answered your question & there was some well-deserved snark thrown in. You are acting like a snot.

I have to say I am shocked by the women on this board. These boards are supposed to be helpful, welcoming and a safe place for people to ask questions (or answer them). I am disgusted that in one day of being on this board I have experienced this. If you don't like what someone has written, ignore it.Time to grow up ladies.

But you aren't even following your own orders? Act like a hypocrite, much?

These boards are not some warm n' fuzzy place. They are meant to make money. You can get a lot of support (I personally can attest to this), but you have to pull your head out of your ass. Give support, not attitude, to get it.

Notice, you are giving out some truly jacked-up, princess attitude. You are getting your butt handed to you because of the way you are behaving. Calm down, dude.

  • I think the lesson we all need to learn from this is learn to love your stretch marks. You can't avoid them, so don't stress just be grateful for the happy and healthy baby you are growing and understand, like everything else, your LO is going to change your body. Being ashamed of stretch marks is ridiculous. That's like people who try to gain as little weight as possible so they don't have to lose weight afterwards. Be proud of your newly changing mama-to-be bodies :)

I agree. I do empathize with the adjustments & emotions, but you just have to do your best to ride the wave. Gaining weight, stretch marks etc. don't mean you are less of a person, lazy, or anything else negative. Child bearing just changes you, but it doesn't define you.

  • I was lucky & didn't get any with DS, so I'm hoping it the same this time around. Nobody really has them in my family, so I do believe it's genetics. BUT, I do drink tons of water, use Palmers Cocoa Butter, take vitamins, use olive oils & coconut oil in cooking, and only gained 24lbs with DS. I think not gaining much weight & eating healthy is the best thing you can do. GL!!
  • So I have a quick question to add:
Can't you also help the elasticity of your skin by keeping well hydrated? Or is this nonsense?
