XP: Placenta Previa at 25 Weeks?

Does anyone have any experience with placenta previa at 25 weeks?  I was diagnosed with marginal previa at 19 weeks and at my 25 week appointment, it had moved to a complete. Anyone know the odds of it moving out of the way?  My doctor didn't say much other than he will check it again in two weeks.  If it's still a previa he said we would discuss it more at that point. He has not put me on any restrictions or anything of that nature.   At this point, I'm trying to make a list of questions to ask him next week and do a little research.  Anything I should be prepared for?  I haven't had any bleeding so far.  If you've had bleeding, when did it start?  I've seen suggestions on some websites suggesting that I pack an emergency bag.  If you did this (or wish you did) what would you have put in it?

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.  Thank you!
On our way to baby#2!  Praying for a healthy and happy delivery next June!

Re: XP: Placenta Previa at 25 Weeks?

  • My sister had this with both pregnancies. It was a full pp. It didn't cause anything abnormal pregnancy related.

She was required to have a c-section. She had no issues with that except her first section took longer to complete.

She did have IUGR but that is seperate.

I know that PP can move up as your belly expands.

  • There's still plenty of time for it to move, so try not to worry.  I had a complete previa and was on pelvic rest up until my u/s at 28 weeks.  It's still a little low, but far enough away from the cervix that I don't have restrictions anymore.  I never had any bleeding either.  Just try to take it easy, don't do any heavy lifting and try not to worry!  Hopefully it will move back up as your uterus expands.  Good luck!

I was told at my 20 week scan that my uterus was a bit low.  They noticed at 16 weeks but really never mentioned it.  I go back Thurs at 27 weeks for them to recheck to see if it has moved.  I told my Dr after I went for the US, he did not seem to concerned at that time.

I have not worried about it and will see what they say on Thurs.

Restriction was pelvic rest. Not sure if that helps/

  • @dragonfly711‌ your uterus or your placenta?
  • Thanks everyone!  Hopefully he will tell me more next week.  In the meantime, I'm just going to take it easy.

  • I have had placenta previa (of varying degrees) since they discovered it at my 20week ultrasound....I was put on pelvic rest, but never have had any bleeding. I'm at almost 38 weeks now...at my last ultrasound, the previa was only "marginal" and I'm hoping they'll clear me to do a vaginal delivery (not sure yet). That said, it is very rare for it not to move up in the uterus by this time...as in, only 2.5% of women with previa don't have it eventually resolve. Hopefully since your'e only at 25 weeks, yours will move...you still have time!
Note: I'm surprised he didn't put you on any restrictions....usually if you have any degree of placenta previa, you have to be on 'pelvic rest' (no sex). Obviously, I'd say just go w/ what your dr is telling you, but just note that sex could cause bleeding.

    figured but was just checking
  • I was diagnosed with placenta previa at my anatomy scan at 19 weeks. I was put on activity restrictions (no strenuous activity, no lifting over 20 lbs) and pelvic rest. They rechecked it at 28 weeks and it was officially complete placenta previa. I'm now 34 weeks and have had no bleeding so far, but am scheduled for a c-section at 36+6. Since I haven't had any bleeding I've managed to avoid bed rest, but it hasn't been fun dealing with the worries this diagnosis brings. I read a study (don't have a link to it offhand) that said the average time for a first bleed with complete previa is 32 weeks and the risk goes up rapidly the farther you go after that....

I'm SUPER surprised you weren't put on pelvic rest -- that seem very, very odd!

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! Hope you are one of the lucky ones and your placenta moves!
