Pregnant after IF

Cervix length- should I be concerned before ET? (From IF)

Hi ladies- I'm hoping you might be able to help. I'm due to trigger tonight for egg retrieval early next week. I was looking back over my scan results from a few days ago and noticed that my cervix was measured as 2.3cm (23mm). I thought that sounded short and am now quite stressed after reading that a cervix length of 23mm would be considered very short for someone who was pregnant- and I haven't even had ET yet. We were hoping to do a double embryo transfer if we're lucky enough to have two to transfer but now I'm really worried that I could be a candidate for an incompetent cervix if I were to get pregnant (and even higher risk if I were to carry multiples). Does anyone have any advice? I will try and speak with my doctor at egg retrieval but am panicking at the moment...My hope is that the lady doing my scan wasn't used to fertility based scans and may have measured wrong...

  • I'm thinking that hormones induced by pregnancy would trigger changes in your cervix. I wouldn't read too much into pre-pregnancy measurements...but definitely ask your doc if you're concerned. GL to you!

  • Your cervix will change once pregnant so I honestly would not stress out about this. Your cervix actually goes through changes when ovulating and isn't a consistent stable thing. If there is no baby in the uterus there is no need for the cervix to be long and closed as there is nothing to keep in. Good luck with your transfer!

Thanks @brittneyandadam. There has just been so many hiccups with this cycle (and a lot riding on the outcome) that I want to make sure I am avoiding any potential issues. I appreciate your response :)

  • I totally understand. For my last cycle, I was really pessimistic because my progesterone levels were so low. They actually pushed my trigger shot back a couple days in hopes my levels would rise and I was sure that the cycle was doomed.

Infertility is so stressful in general. I'm so glad your cycle worked out for you :) Hopefully I'll be across on this board soon :)

  • Wait it out, I'm sure that it will change. 2.3cm isn't that short anyways, my MFMs use less than 2.5cm as technically short. Try not to worry and good luck!!!
