Changing providers

My daughter is 16 months and is currently in a home daycare with 2 others kids that are 12 months old. I have been looking for a center to put my daughter in when she turns 2 because the current provider cares for infants only. I found a center that would take my daughter now and I would be saving $500.00 month because I would qualify for there low income services.

I currently work 2 jobs to pay for our expenses now. Should I wait until my daughter is 2 and then move her. I just want to do what is in her best interest. I need some advice on what to do.

If you like the new center, I might consider making the change now. DD could go ahead and adjust to the change, and that's a lot of money that you could use to pay off bills, save, college fund, etc.

Or you could possibly work fewer hours if you could save that much $ each month!

Assuming you can afford to do so, I'd do whatever you think would be best for your daughter, regardless of the money. There's a big difference between a 16-month-old and a 2-year-old, and 15-18 months is the peak of separation anxiety, so if you think your tot is benefitting from the home daycare setting and the low adult/child ratio, I'd consider leaving her there until 2. But if she's pretty easy-going and you have no real qualms about switching, then by all mens, save that dough!!

I would say go ahead and switch. Maybe switch at 18 months. I know our daycare is a little slower in the summer because teachers kids (like mine) aren't there and the cold season will be over. I think waiting until 2 just for the sake of saying she's 2 doesn't really make much sense. Whenever you do it, it will be an adjustment. If you like the center, it saves you money, and you think she will be happy there then why wait?

Switch.  We all want what's best for our kids but switching providers isn't always bad and it isn't always avoidable so in this case, saving that much money would be a no brainer for me.  You obviously like the center enough to be willing to switch her in what? 8 months?  As long as you feel the same about their young toddler program, go for it.

My son was at an in home until he was 8 months old then I got laid off.  I  started a new job when he was 10 months old and he started at a different provider.  When he was 15 months old we bought a house and moved over an hour away so, obviously, switched providers.  We hated that place and two months later he switched again.  That provider moved away so when he was 26 months old he started at yet another place.  He's been there since then and is almost 4.  I'm not advocating switching like we had to but my point is that we had to and we all survived
