Ok, well I guess I'll start from the beginning.
About a month ago my son was only interested in nursing in the morning and at night, which was fine. The cutback was fairly easy as I wasn't producing much milk anymore anyway. After about a week of doing that, my son unexpectedly bit me while nursing (has never done that before in the 11 months of nursing). I jump and said "ow" since I wasn't expecting it, he cried uncontrollably - I felt terrible. For the next week for so, it was difficult to nurse, there were a couple days he didn't nurse at all, others where he only did once. This happened for about a week and then he quit altogether. It's been about 2 weeks since I last nursed. Until yesterday, the transition appeared to be easy. No pain, leaking etc. I attributed it to the fact that I wasn't producing much anyway.
Yesterday, I have what feels to be a clogged duct in my right breast. There are some spots of discomfort and lumps. I have had clogged ducts before during nursing. Some people tell me that the drying up process feels like a clog and you just have to wear a tight sports bra for a couple weeks so the body gets the message to stop producing. Provide the breast with as little stimulation as possible so it doesn't produce more. However, if it IS a clog, I need to do the opposite: warm compresses, massage the breast toward the nipple etc. I'm so stuck. I have no idea what is going on or which way to go. Right now I have been wearing cabbage leaves since I hear that helps with the drying up process and taking Ibuprofen for inflammation.
Has anyone has this predicament? What did you do.
Thank you in advance for your responses.
