Snaps too tight?

Is there any general rule of thumb regarding which snaps to fasten the diaper on? I make it pretty snug around the waist to avoid any leaks, but DD starts making funny grunting sounds when I'm securing the diaper, and I'm worried that she is uncomfortable from it being too tight. Any tricks to determine the best fit?

I just stick a couple fingers in and eyeball it. I know with the BG, I was in between for a bit, so they were snapped uneven (3 open instead of 2 or 4) until she chunked up. No real rule of thumb. If it feels tight, bump it up and see if it leaks. I wouldn't wanna be left in too tight pants

I make sure I can get a finger or two under the waist and leg holes, but not more.  Daycare sometimes snaps her BG4.0's too loosely and the top/front of the diaper starts inching up (like you can see the inside material).  As long as LO isn't getting red marks that aren't blanch-able / don't go away after 20-30 minutes, I feel like we're good.
