TTC after 35

Formal Intro

Hello!  thirtyninetoforty from Northumberland Co, PA.  I posted on the weekly check in for over 40 crowd a couple of weeks ago and would like to take the time to formally introduce myself and give background up to today.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 20.  I was told I would never have kids.  A few years later I was involved in study at a hospital for women with PCOS and learned that was not true and that I could have kids I would just need medical intervention.  So I didn't much worry about it because I was waiting to find the right person to start a family with and I wanted to concentrate on my career. Well, the career advanced but the right person never happened.  A few years ago I thought about doing it on my own but I would always change my mind (sometimes I wish I would have been careless just to see if I would have gotten PG).

Then, towards the end of 2013, I thought "Holy F***, I'm going to be 40!  It's now or never."  So I went to my OBGYN and she threw me on Clomid and kept testing me to see if I O and she kept saying I didn't.  She was not very helpful so I became discouraged and stopped going to her for a few months.  Then, in  December, I thought I really need to find an RE who would actually help me.  I found a great one!  He is so positive and has done this very same thing for others and has been successful.  He tested my egg quality, estrogen, and tubes and all was great.  He said that it was a shame no one ever took the time to test me for PCOS after an incident when I hemorrhaged (after a significant amount of weight loss my chemical balance or something leveled and I truly stopped having PCOS) because ever since then, I had been regular (this was a few years ago) and I had all the right signs that I was actually O.  I had a nice follie in January but didn't have all the tests done so I opted to wait (he was right about when I would O because my temp went up after that time).  February, I was on 50 mg of Clomid and had a cyst.  My RE said cysts can come on their own and wanted to try again this month (and now that I have had a period after a cyst, I know that, yes, I have had cysts in the past since it is much different).  So I was on another round of 50 mg Clomid this month.  I had and US on CD 10 and he had seen something that was small and he said my lining was in the early stages so he had me come back on CD 12 (short time frame because my cycles are usually 30 - 35 days but it was 26 days the last 2 months but now I am back to a longer cycle) so I did for an US and it was the same size.  Now I am going back in Monday which is CD 17 to see what it is and I have my donor vial on stand by in case it's a go (he really couldn't tell if it was a cyst or follie because it was so small) and I need it shipped Monday for Tuesday delivery.

I am using donor sperm and having IUI.  I have told three people - two friends and my sister.  My two friends know very little and they do support me in different ways and my sister knows more and she is my biggest cheerleader but I am very careful NOT to let on to any of them how badly I want this.  I play it down because they all have kids and truly do not understand.

OK, for my fear...I have never tried to get PG so my RE keeps telling me that I haven't proven I have an issue.  Everything he could test for is good so he says there is no reason to think I won't get PG.  I am nervous about Monday and fear that I will miss my LH surge or won't be able to see it on the strips.  I bought the really cheap ones and some more expensive ones.  I figure I will use the more expensive ones if I can't tell on the other strips.  Some people say they have no trouble and other say they never get a positive but yet they still end up PG but they also have easier access to sperm and mine truly is a one shot deal (well, I can have more if I buy more).  I have asked my RE about having two vials sent and he says no that there is only a small window and it is all about timing and he doesn't feel it is necessary to have two.  It is up to me but he really doesn't think it is necessary.  I have no reason to doubt him because he has been so helpful and he has a proven track record of doing this.  I am just so wanting it done yesterday and I just need to relax but it is hard when there isn't a partner involved with you which is why I really need to get on this board daily and reply to other posts, post new, etc.  Everything I have read is so positive and you all seem to be so very nice and helpful.  I do feel bad about going on with my fears, etc when I have not actually tried to get PG and some of you have been trying for years.  I truly wish all of you the best and hope it happens for each one of us!

Thank you for taking the time to read this!  I tried to give a good overview of my background without talking too much so I hope I didn't confuse anyone.

I look forward to sharing with all of you.
:)

  • @BeckyP005...I will and you do the same if near harrisburg, lancaster, or any place remotely close to me.
@URMySunshine77...Yes, most don't take the time to really care and listen or they just want you to jump to IVF since you are 40+.  I am glad I found him.

  • I'm sorry I'm late to the game in welcoming you. Life gets in the way of bumping sometimes. However, I read this a few days ago and i just wanted to comment about how impressed I am by your bravery. Before I met DH I said I would do something about starting a family if I hadn't met anyone by the age of 35. But I wasn't sure how to go about it. You are taking the bull by the horns and I so admire that about you!
I am wishing you the best of luck in your TTC journey.
