Babies: 9 - 12 Months

MOTN wake ups

My son is 10.5 months and for the past 3 months he has been waking up multiple times. at first it was because he was sick, then he had a growth spurt... But this past month he wakes up and doesn't need anything, he only takes a sip of his sippy cup then takes his paci and goes back to sleep. but he will only go back to sleep if we go through these motions... I've tried just giving the paci and he freaks out. I've tried just letting him cry but it breaks my heart (hes always been a good sleeper so we've never had to CIO) should i let him CIO? or is there something I'm not doing right? any advice appreciated!! TIA

Re: MOTN wake ups

  • You're not doing anything wrong :)  Perhaps he's thirsty. I need a sip of water overnight too. What about leaving his cup in his crib overnight for him to grab himself?  Or do you feel that it's more about the routine of a visit from mom, a sip and needing you to give him the paci? Can he find the paci himself? Babies thrive on routine so you might need to change the way you handle a MOTN wake up. I can't do CIO either but a pick-up/put-down and repeat method worked for us. But it was a lot of picking up and putting down, my back hurt, I got little sleep, it was frustrating but it worked and it took about 3 days. GL!
