Champagne recs?

I have a while but I want start tasting different champagnes to find a good one. My friend is getting married in June and I'm a bridesmaid (I may have mentioned this once or twice recently :) ) and I thought I'd bring some nice champagne for us girls to have in the room while we get ready. Anyway, I need some help. I don't know anything about champagne! Also, what's a good snacky food we could have with champagne??

The best champagne I've ever had (not that I drink it frequently) was at a friend's wedding, it's called Verdi. I buy it whenever we need champagne now and everyone always asks what it is. Bonus, it's actually cheap.

I drink cheap stuff, like we're talking Andre here so I have no suggestions there. (However my mouth is watering thinking about champagne! 5 more weeks..) but for appetizers I've made Brie and raspberry or whatever flavor jam you want in little https://www.pepperidgefarm.com/RecipeDetail.aspx?recipeID=50146 This is the recipe, but I use those little cup type pastries instead of the puff. They take about 5-10 mins total to make and are super tasty. I don't do the pecans tho. Plus they look fancy and aren't a mess to eat!

I love champagne. Hate to say but I've had expensive and I've had not so expensive. & I prefer not so expensive. Taste is better. Champagne isn't one of those things that get better with time, at least for me. Wine? Yes.

J Roget Brut= the best! I pop blackberries in it or strawberries. Snacks to go with it- cheese & fruit plate with crackers. Hummus & tapenade with pita. Mini quiches. Pastries. Chocolate.

  • If you can get your hands on anything from CA you won't be disappointed!

Mumm's BRUT and Blanc de Blanc - I don't like their Cuvee because it's SUPER sweet!
Domaine Chandon's BRUT and Extra Dry Reich (this one is sweet-ish but just so good with desserts!)
Piper-Sonoma's BRUT, Blanc de Blanc, Blanc de Noir, and Rose

Spanish Cava's are excellent and usually very inexpensive like Prosecco!

The food question is: anything! Champagne goes with anything! :)

I suggest protein and fruit and cheese is always great! So fun!

  • on special occasions I love this Blanc de Blanc called sophia. its a coppola wine. Its not super easy to find but is really good and about 18 abt bottle.
  • I second the vote for Verdi, I love it..
  • I forgot to mention, you should check around at your local wine shops and/or big box wine stores (like BevMo) for free or $1 tastings. We have several around here that do them every weekend and post about them on their websites (so you know what you will be tasting)! Might be a great way to taste without spending much before committing to a purchase. :)

I've found it really hard to distinguish between them about 90% of the time.

Other than an extra-dry that's going to be super sweet, like a Reisling wine, or a Cuvee (a blend) that could be just about anything, you aren't going to notice much of a taste different between the "brut" "blanc de noir" "blanc de blanc" within a brand nor between brands. :) Rose can be slightly sweeter, richer but I even failed a blind taste test once!

So anyhow, hope this helps and I hope you'll come back and post what you picked out!

Oh yeah, there's a Total Wine close to our house and they do tastings. I'll definitely find out if they sample champagnes! Thanks for the tip!

  • Adami prosecco is better than cheap champagne...I prefer it if I'm not spending $$ for a good real champagne. I prefer rose champagnes...what do you want to spend?

Kinda depends how many bottles I'd need. There will be 5 of us getting ready in the room. So 2 bottles?? Maybe $40-50 total? Shoot. I don't know!
