I had mine done after my second c-section. The pros are no more birth control and no more babies. There weren't any real cons for us. Since they were already in there I didn't need a seperate surgery and their was no recovery time. I've never had any regrets about it.
Thanks for the feedback. I had a C-section the first time and will probably have a repeat and am considering having it done then. So issues with recovery or problems with your period afterward?
Haven't gotten my period back yet, still nursing. Recovery though, like I said, was faster/easier than the first regular c. Just took a few minutes longer to do the surgery was all.
Probably not relevant if you're having a C-sect, but I had the Essure procedure done 8 weeks PP. Check it out if you're interested and it doesn't work out for during your delivery. I was in and out in about 2 hours, back at work the next day, just minimal cramping (like AF).
Haven't had my 3 month check yet (its next week), but the stats are really good (as good as a "regular" tubal) for effectiveness.
I can't believe I'll say this but I'm jealous you're getting a c and will do a tubal! It's the single best way to handle birth control when you're done.
The only "con" is really, really morbid but if one of your youngesters died, would you want to try again?
I should get a tubal but it's VERY expensive to do on its own. I just can't ever get pregnant again... medically dangerous. Blech!
I had no additional recovery. I wouldn't have known it was even done except the doc asked me if I was sure three times. Once after the baby came out and then she asked again before she did each side. I haven't had any issues with my period.
I had it done w/ my repeat c section. It did not impact my recovery at all and I haven't had any issues since then. I'm really glad I don't have to even think about birth control again.
