May 2014 Moms

And the BP is starting to rise :-/

Went to my 30 week appointment yesterday and my BP is now at 130/80.  I know that's not terrible, but I am NEVER over 70 on the bottom, and usually pretty solid at 110 on the top.

This is where it started last pregnancy.  I was fine at 30 weeks and then each week I exploded more, swelled enormously, and my BP skyrocketed week to week.  When I delivered at 37 weeks, I was 170/115...I feel a 24 hour peeing in a bucket coming on.

Re: And the BP is starting to rise :-/

  • Keep your fingers crossed. 130/80 isn't high and maybe this pregnancy will be different and you won't have those same issues.

  • Oh no, as a fellow previous pre-e mama I feel your pain.  FX!

  • Dont worry yet, I was 130 yesterday and down to 118 today, maybe you were just stressed at the time
  • I feel ya. Not on the BP thing, but on the "this is how it started last time". My fluid is starting to drop and while it is still "okay" it has been lower each time it's measured.
Things like this are frustrating because you're like, yeah this is how it started last time, but all the doctors can say is something like, well, it is fine now, we will just keep an eye on it. Good luck and I hope it doesn't get higher!

  • Right there with ya! At 30 weeks my bp was up my dr went ahead and did the 24 hr urine test. I've been diagnosed with pre-e again and my dr went ahead and moved my due date up as she said "looks like we're headed on the same path as your least pregnancy." I know it's disappointing but I think this time around knowing what to expect and how things will be handled makes being in the situation again not as scary as the first time around. Good luck!!
  • Dang! I hope it stays as low as possible for as long as possible! Good luck :)

  • Happened at my 30 week appointment last week as well :-( Mine was 132/84 where mine is normally low. What's with that 30 week mark!? Hope it was just the stress of the day and it goes down for you!
  • I asked what I could do to help prevent it from spiraling and he said, "easy on the salt"...which I don't really eat much of anyway (now sugar is a different story, but I passed my GTT with flying colors)....

I should have been taking the baby aspirin, but I haven't done it religiously.  I hate not being able to control things.

  • There is a study out there that suggests a magnesium supplement may help to bring down blood pressure.  My midwife has me taking 2 calcium supplements to 1 magnesium supplement.  Something to think about.

  • This happened to me 2 weeks ago.  My normal pressure is just like your normal and one day at the doc it was 130/80 and I was worried.  My next appointment I was back to normal at 102/60.  Most of my appointments are in the morning, but the one where my BP was messed up was an afternoon appt.  Don't worry yet - it could have just been off that one day!

  • I'm on bedrest because of last week's appt. 130/90 and failing the the 24 hour test. At 30 weeks now. It's scary to think I could deliver "at any time" when bp goes up again. Ultrasound shows the baby at 3 lb 14 oz so if he comes soon, at least I know he will be ok. You're not the only one! Take care and keep smiling. :)

Im in the same boat!! Ive been off work for a while and taking a baby aspirin a day. Our baby is small, only in the 3rd percentile. Hoping he stays cooking a little longer. Its already foreseen to be induced at 37-38 weeks if all continues to stay the same.
  • Hope it goes down next appt!

Do you have a home BP monitor?  It might be worth getting one if not.It was a condition of my release last time.

My OB has me taking calcium carbonate and baby aspirin which seems to help so far.

  • I wish you weren't in such good company on this but I just got taken off work and on bed rest this week for the same thing. My BP was high at work 140s/90s but its been fine anytime i'm home. Sounds like a lot of good suggestions here from previous pre e mamas. I'll ask my doc about some of these too. I just dropped off my jug of pee this morning.

FX for you. Try to take it easy.

  • I'm in the same boat too. My dr put me on bed rest already. I wish this wasn't happening to any of you but at the same time it is nice to know I'm not alone. Praying that pre-e isn't in any of your future.
  • So sorry. This is my fear too. I was hypertensive my last pregnancy, a steady 140/90. So far this time around it's stayed normal, but every visit makes me nervous. I hope it levels out for you and behaves itself!

  • I had high BP my last pregnancy and one thing they told me to do this time around was go swimming. Even just being in the pool can help lower your BP. I don't know if it would help but its something to consider. I just go to the pool and walk, not swim laps or anything and so far BP is better than last time.

  • Former pree mom here, too. It is natural for bp to go up in the 3rd tri. But I do understand worrying. ;)

I have PIH so they are always watching me like a hawk and I am on BP meds. I also have Lupus which makes me at higher risk for pre-e in addition to the PIH- yay! And there is a noticeable difference between am BP, usually when I am fasted as my appts are so early. and afternoon to the tune of 120s or 110s/70s in am and high 130s/80s in afternoon. I took mine at home yesterday because I was feeling weird and I was 149/82 so yeah its kind of a week by week thing for me at this point.
