Special Needs

I'm exhausted.

The past two weeks have had highs and lows.

We signed DS up in an introductory golf class - he loved it. We are also are enrolling him for swim classes.

On top of that for the past two weeks DS has had an off and on fever...and super crabby and defiant! I decided to take him to the pedi today. Well not only does he have large amounts of wax again...he has a double ear infection! The pedi for whatever reason wanted to do a wait and see approach to the fluid draining...but I insisted on an antibiotic before it turns into a bad infection.

WTH is with pedis and having a watch and wait approach to anything? Wax removal? Wait. Fluid in ears? Meh...wait. when I was a kid there was an automatic round of antibiotics and only if it was recurrent would another treatment method be used.

New guidelines on treating ear infections came out last year. Antibiotics are now a last resort. I hope your little guy feels better soon.

  • He had a high fever (102.0) over the weekend. The pedi also explained that "if he was in pain..." and I explained to her that DS doesn't express his feelings well and I watch his behavior for signs of discomfort.

This has come and gone for the past 2 weeks. This has tested my strength as mom between DS and DD getting up every two hours at night.
