Back in the daycare hunt...

So my DH and I had already selected our daycare provider for when the LO arrives. We absolutely love, love, love this woman. She seemed extremely caring met all our criteria regarding discipline, providing a combination of structured play and free play all the while assisting in the children's development. We signed a contract for services paid our deposit and I thought everything was set to go. Unfortunately, she called last week to tell me that her husband has since been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and that she is unsure if she can commit to providing care for our LO. Although, I completely understand, it is so heartbreaking (on so many levels). She stated that she would call us back in a couple of weeks after they see the specialist to give us a better idea, but wanted to give us a heads up in case we would like to start looking for alternatives now. So now, we wait, to see what is happening, but in the meantime, out of an abundance of caution, i guess its off to look for a new daycare... I am just a little bummed. But such is life. I really hope for this lady's sake it all works out; I couldn't imagine my life being flipped upside down with a diagnosis like that.

  • A pancreatic cancer diagnosis is terminal :-(, and it tends to happen pretty quickly.  I'd definitely start looking for your other options and XO, that's a tough situation.

  • That's terrible, poor woman. Most likely her husband won't make it til the end of the year. I would definitely look for another daycare at this point.

That is devastating news-poor woman. I agree, go ahead and look for other options. And maybe send her a card, flowers or some kind of thinking of you gesture? Sounds like she is a wonderful person, especially letting u know right away
  • Never know. My aunt had a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.....9 years ago. Thankfully she had the slow growing kind 5% of people with that diagnosis. Never know ....

You never know is right. But I think at this point my biggest fear is that she will say yes she will still do it and something unfortunate happens (i.e. he doesn't make it) and it happens at the last minute and I am left scrambling for a new provider. I unfortunately do not have the luxury of staying home. I decided it would be a good idea to be a lawyer, and have copious amounts of student loans to prove it. We both have to work, and my husband is a teacher. Even just calling around to find alternatives, I can only find 2 people would could take on an infant when we need one. So for now, we have visits scheduled and we will play it by ear.

  • Good luck! It's so hard finding the right person. I'm on the same boat somewhat- wish I could just stay home...
