I don't think the difference between sex and gender is that big of a deal when you are talking about an unborn baby. Obviously, as a child grows it becomes more of an issue. But in utero it isn't something to get your panties in a wad about.

I completely agree. I really don't think there is technically a difference BC on paper sex and gender is male or female. Now gender role is what you choose to be. When you sign up for something or put it on paper you are asked sex or gender not both, you answer male or female plain and simple. I guess were gonna have to start saying sex reveal party? Um no. Now you can change your sex but you can't do that as a child so its nothing to get upset about.
Gender role isn't what you choose. Gender identity is. See page 1. There is a very important distinction here

UO: Baby showers are a privilege not a right. Also be prepared for most people NOT to buy off your registry. This is ok and not worth complaining about.

UO: I dress my daughter in dresses and even pink! I'm not going to buy all neutral clothes and toys just because I don't know her "gender" as a newborn or even at 2. If and when she decides she wants something different then great. Yes some days she wants to play in the dirt with trucks and then the next she wants to play tea with her bears. I just don't understand this thought of you shouldn't dress boys in blue and girls in pink.
The biggest difficulty I have with this is when "ERMERGERD, EVERYTHING HAS TO BE PINK AND PONIES AND RAINBOWSSSS!!!!" It's too much and it feels like they're forcing it down their kid's throat.

But i'm pretty sure my almost 2 year old doesn't equate pink to being a girl. So I don't understand how that's shoving it down her throat.

    ------
I'm pretty sure mine doesn't either. She loves to dress up and hold her babies, she likes to be told how pretty she is. She also like to play in the mud and roll on the dog..how is that shoving it down her throat? She doesn't even have rainbows or ponies, she has tutus and crowns!!

Again, I have to disagree. If rape and murder have the same consequence, why not just murder every woman you rape?

I swear guys I'm not on the side of rapists. This is something I've thought about for years.
Because not all rapists have a desire to murder their victims.  Their motives are totally different.  A rapist isn't going to suddenly start murdering just because the consequences are the same as rape.  Just like not all murderers continue to murder in prison once they are sentences to life without parole.  A mentally unstable brain is not chemically the same as one that isn't, so the argument that it would lead to more murders is invalid because that's assuming that they have the desire to murder their victims to begin with.

A lot of rapists don't think they are hurting their victim.  It could 'ruin' their experience if they murdered.  There are plenty who already do though

    ---END QUOTE MOBILE FAIL---

My 2 year old girl is usually in dresses because she's still in diapers and it's easier to change a diaper if I don't have to pull off pants & put them back on. Sheer laziness there. A lot of her clothes are pink, not because I like pink, but because she's a girl and a lot of cute stuff comes in pink. If when she's 4 she decides she identifies as a boy, I will buy her whatever she wants to feel more like a boy, but while I'm picking I'll put my GIRL in dresses and whatever colors I want, cause she doesn't have any opinion. I doubt the color of her clothes, rainbows or ponies will make her feel like she can't identify with whatever gender she selects to be in the future! I want my child to be as happy as any parent (hopefully), but as a newborn or even a 2 y/o she doesn't really have a say, because her favorite word is "bubbles" and "humus".

  • On a lighter note, I am LOVING my huge sore as shit boobs because they look fantastic for the first time in about 4 years (since my last nursing child).

I have big boobs before baby. They don't get any bigger BC they are already HUGE, size 32g. I wish they would get smaller. But they don't :( such a pain in the back.
  • So sick of gender debate. Who cares they are babies. Let them be. I hate when children are oversexualized. Like look at little so and so and her boyfriend cause two babies rolled over on a blanket at a play date. Also I think these gender issues are highly over publicised. Before kids I would freak out about how I was going to parent in this androgynous hyper PC world without offending anyone at a preschool bday party...but guess what? It hasn't come up yet and my oldest is almost 5. All the children just did what kids do...jump in the jump house and beat in the piñata waiting for candy and sang happy birthday. I'm gonna love my kids no matter what and when and if they or their friends have issues of any kind we'll cross that bridge then.

  • I think racist jokes are insensitive, I don't enjoy them at all. I think people who tell racist jokes are douchebags honestly, weather it's about the differences and stereotypes, or put downs and insults it's all the same to me really.

This. Also, there will he women who speak out, however most do not because they think they will be blamed. There is still a crazy stigmatized rape culture where ppl think it matters how the victim dressed, if she was alone, if she had been drinking, her sexual past...etc. I used to counsel sexual assault victims and advocate for them in the ER. It was really sad hearing the reasons why they didn't want me calling in the police to take a report. Sometimes you could talk them through it, sometimes you couldn't. A lot of influence came from what the rapist had said to them during the encounter...or the situation surrounding what had happened. They were afraid that they were going to get in trouble, not the individual that had assaulted them.

I really don't like pie, but I have tried it.  It's the crust I don't like.  I eat pie if it has a graham cracker crust.  I just hate pie crust.

:-O Whaaaaa???? That's the best part!

  • Too lazy to use the quote button, but speaking of picky eaters. My best friend, whom I love ever so dearly, has never tried pie. PIE! She thinks it looks gross. She also doesn't eat: bread, sandwiches, eggs, chicken wings, sauces/most condiments, noodles with anything except Alfredo (including mac & cheese), salads, soup, and the list goes on and on. When we go on girls trips the only things she eats is ham with green chili for breakfast, and then prime rib, chicken Alfredo, the toppings off of pizza, a burger with no bun, or carne asada. It makes me sad for her, I love food, all kinds of food.
I really don't like pie, but I have tried it.  It's the crust I don't like.  I eat pie if it has a graham cracker crust.  I just hate pie crust.  The rest of the things she won't eat though are pretty ridiculous!

My UO, just because I know you all love them:  I also HATE McDonald's hashbrowns.  All I could do was gag when everyone on here was obsessed with them a couple of weeks ago.
I HATE pie (most pies, anyway)... it's the cooked fruit that I don't like, though. The consistency is just not right for fruit. I don't mind pies where the fruit isn't trying to be fruit, though, so I'm okay with key lime and pumpkin and sweet potato.
  • There are some things that I will pick out (raw tomatoes, raw red onions, mushrooms) because if I don't, I will vomit. It's not always about being picky.

  • I think avacado/guac is gross... I can only handle a little bit in sushi (the avacado) and only certain guacs, but even then it's only like one dip of a chip I can do with it.

    WHAAA?!? This is crazy talk!
