Mold

So, I noticed that a bunch of my BGs have some scattered tiny dark spots that I'm pretty sure are mold. Whoops. Looks like I left them in the bag a day longer than I should have.

I washed them with bleach, but the spots are still there. Some of the articles I read seemed to indicate that even if the mold was dead, the stains would remain--but then how can I truly tell if the mold is dead?

Has anyone been through this and care to impart some wisdom? I'd hate to have to trash them. Thank god my simplexes look ok.

Re: Mold

  • Have you tried hand scrubbing? I get dark spots and it's not mold, it's poop.

You can have poop on the diapers??? That's gross--I would never put poop in my washer.

I typically wash every 2-3 days, but he's in disposables at daycare, so sometimes during the week he'll only wear 1-2 CDs daily and there have been a few times I've let it slide and gone a good 4 days since there wasn't much to wash. Totally my own lazy fault.

After washing with bleach, followed by a hot water strip, they smell great.

    It looks like this:

  • @mapleme so when your cheese molds you can really just cut that part off and the rest is fine??

  • @MapleMe - I want you to know that your educational series about cheese and mold lead me to buy a small wedge of real Paremsan the other day. I didn't grow up eating it, and DH just buys the powdered stuff in the green can, so this was a big step for me. I used it tonight on top of our chicken and green bean casserole. Yum!!! I've been storing it in one of those vacuum seal bags and sucking the air out. Will that help prevent mold growth so I don't have to cut any off and waste it?

  • Real parmasean lasts forever! Many weeks. I've kept some for probably months and I've never had mold grow. The crap in a can is vile by comparison!

  • Took my mom into Londontown to meet a friend of hers for lunch. I had a fresh mozarella salad with cherry tomatoes for my appetizer. Of course DS ate most of it.

It is now 10:30 pm, DS is sleeping, and I'm about to have my consolation prize, which is just going to be bite size chunks of really good parmesan with a few slices of roma tomato. Too bad I don't have fresh basil handy. Can't wait to put in our herb garden!

The next time I go looking for tomatoes and find nothing but a sad lonely apple, I will give that apple a chance.
