Leaking newborn dipes?

DD just turned a month old and within the last couple days we are experiencing a lot of leaks with Kawaii P&Ns, Thirsties AIOs, Alva newborns and (old style) Grovia AIOs. All of these were working just fine for us before so long as we don't go too long between changes. Having zero issues with the bulletproof GMD Workhorse Fitteds w/Thirsties covers...and the SoftBums Echo shells w/Mini Pods are holding up as long as we change about every 2 hours, 3 hours max.

Is it most likely that she has just outgrown the absorbency on these? If so, I am super bummed we didn't get more use out of the Thirsties & P&Ns because she is no where near outgrowing those size-wise.

Is there anything I can do to fix our leaking problems? I only have 18 of the workhorses and like 5 mini pods - the rest of my SoftBums pods are way too bulky on her. She is starting to fit into her OS dipes but I really wanted to get my money's worth out of my newborn stash!

  • Just one MF insert - I want to say it may have came with 2 inserts? I know I have a drawer full of MF.

  • Will do! Any hope for my Thirsties or can I pretty much count on being done with those?

  • My boy outgrew the absorbency in his Thirsties AIO at about 3-4 weeks. I made a three layer hemp fleece doubler and stuck it in the tunnel and he can still use them (maybe a two hour stretch?) at 9 weeks. Might be worth it to make/invest in something like that to get a few more weeks use.

  • The Thirsties Duo AIO has an optional pocket/tunnel that you can stuff to add to the absorbancy.  We started stuffing it with a preemie sized prefold at about 5-6 weeks (you can stuff with a cloth wipe, or make your own small doublers) and are still using them now (once you unsnap the rise you'll definitely want to add something otherwise there is nothing absorbent in the very front).

  • Thanks -- I think my Alvas are done for (and a pain in the ass to stuff anyways) so I might try to take the little inserts from those and put them in the pocket in the Thirsties and see if that will give us at least another hour of wear. That would make me feel better about them :)

I could never use the NB MF inserts that came in NB alvas-- those don't hold anything! I got their NB bamboo inserts and added one of those with the MF. I have small hands, though, so stuffing them doesn't bother me.

My grandma has a fully stocked sewing room and could definitely make these for me - Where do I find the hemp material? I'd love to have her make some doublers!

I made mini doubler for my NB AIOs as well, two layers was sufficient for us, but we don't have a heavy wetter.

I don't know what shipping is for this but I looked several places and it was cheaper for me to order the stuff on Amazon that is free shipping. I did 3 layers that were 4.5 x 12 inches. The length makes them slightly difficult to stuff in the size one Thirsties and you have to double over in the front if the rise is snapped up but I wanted them to be large enough to use in OS dipes later on and they really weren't that bulky IMO.

Every time I see MF abbreviated, I automatically mentally translate it to a different "MF" abbreviation.  And it usually fits in context…I feel so simple and amused  :))
