I've only had DS2 back in his CDs for a few days and he started getting a bum rash yesterday. He has been in disposables for a few weeks while I got rid of his yeast bum rash. I believe this rash is a wetness related rash as it is bright pink and red around his bum and up his bum crack where the skin touches itself.
He's in a combination of prefolds and BG OS. I use 1 TBSP RnG in my top load HE machine. My wash routine is to spray all diapers then they have a hot soak, cold wash (I cannot change this temp) and three cold rinses.
The first two days I wash changing him every 1.5-2 hours unless he fell asleep then he might have gone up to 4 hours. I would try to have him in a BG if I thought he was going to sleep and would try to get him changed as close to nap as possible but he is still unpredictable.
The rash started to develop a bit yesterday and blew up this morning. All day today I've been setting a timer and changing him every hour. He hasn't had any long naps, so he might have gone one 2 hour stretch.
At each change today I've been putting on either coconut oil or CJs BUTTer Plus on his bum. Prior to today I put them on at every other change. I use cloth wipes with water to clean his bum.
Even when I changed him every hour he always had a small amount of poop in the diaper, I swear he has a leaky bum. I make sure he dries out completely at each change before I put on the next diaper. His rash seemed to be getting worse as today went on. I don't know what else I can do?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Dumb question, am I changing him often enough?
Does the hot soak agitate and spin, or just drain? It's a necessary step, otherwise the diapers are being washed in dirty water. It could be that the pee is not being rinsed and washed out properly and that the ammonia is irritating his skin. Do the diapers smell after they've been peed in?

Yea, our pedi told us to mix talc powder, desitin, and Vaseline. At least I think it was those things if I'm remembering correctly. Not CD safe tho...

@CopperT0p It kinda starts to sound like an ammonia thing. Maybe try a different detergent. I posted about ammonia the other day and it was suggested to me to soak my diapers for a couple hours in a bucket of warm water with a little bit of vinegar. I did that, washed with Tide, and did a couple extra hour water washes with no detergent. It cleaned my diapers right up.
Buy more diapers!!
