You know what I think is stupid about the social groups? I think if they roll out the boards will die a slow agonizing death. And then no one will want to use the bump, and the whole business will fail.

I think they're trying to keep traffic growing on TB. They probably get new registrations all the time but if people don't stay active their stats might not look all that great to advertisers. Private groups might be a way of keeping people coming back who might otherwise drift away.

Yeah, buts it's alienating. Like, if you're not 'in' there's no way to become in. Here on our board if people (like @mandmeesh) just start posting and are awesome, they get welcomed pretty quickly. Otherwise, you're stuck with a tiny blurb being like, 'hey please let me join your group?' I think it would target the people who may otherwise leave the bump, but I think it's going to majorly affect the non private groups, and it will be much more difficult to attract new members if the boards aren't active or there for information. Even think about how many lurkers there are, which I would assume also affects advertisers opinions. Now people with no account can't view a huge chunk of content, so what is the point of even lurking on the bump when there are a billion other parenting sites that have all their content open and accessible?

I mean, even the social group I started, which is just a stupid joke, got two people who I didn't know requesting access and I was like, 'Ehh, who are you?' and left their invites in limbo.

You should accept them and just let them talk to each other.

People can be alienating if they want to be. That's life. I'll continue to hang out here as long as I feel like I am able to contribute, and also learn from others. And as long as it stays entertaining. I may not participate much in the non-CD chatter, but it cracks me up and makes this a fun place.

I agree that @Mandmeesh‌ is awesome. But I'm surprised you chose her as the coolest person for your callout considering she is too good for us these days.
