My doc recommended it for me as it seems like my cervix is not dilating as it should... Seeing as how uncomfortable stripping the membranes is, I'm sure this is not going to be fun either - does it hurt?
I did when I went in for my induction. It started my labor almost immediately. It was not the most comfortable thing while being inserted but it didn't hurt, just didn't feel good. Once it was in I really don't remember feeling it, but like I said it started my labor so I was focusing on my contractions. If your cervix is not dilated I'm not sure how they expect to get it in, I think mine had to be dilated a few centimeters before they could insert it, which was not until about 12 hours after they started my induction with something to ripen my cervix.
I had it, insertion was weird because my cervix was in a weird spot apparently. Strangest part was feeling it as I walked to the bathroom to pee as they tape it to your leg with some tension. Then having it fall out as I am peeing in the toilet
I had one with my first child, the doctor used a speculum to insert which isn't done all the time but it does make it less uncomfortable. It worked wonders for me I was fingertip dilated a 41+ weeks and I went from fingertip to 4 cm in about 2 hours without pitocin. Total labor from check in to birth was 12 hours!!!
I had this done with my daughter a few years ago. It does help you progress faster. However, I never fully dilated. After 44 hours of active labor I had to have a c-section. Good luck!!!
I had it done instead of a cervical ripener, was 1cm at 42 weeks. A little uncomfortable going in, but otherwise ok. Went from a 1 to a 5 in about an hour, and it fell out on the toilet while I was peeing. Did not end up needing any other "help" augmenting labor (ripeners, pitocin). Good luck!
