So we had our first home study last night which went relatively well, we seem to have a reasonable licensing specialist, but there were a few twists and turns. In our initial orientation we were told the process takes 60-120 days. We are already 45 days into the the process and were told it will take another 120. Hmm...someone can't do math over there. We have to meet with the specialist every other week for the next 4 months! Seems like a lot, but hey...whatever floats your boat. Another twist is that she uses a different qualification checklist than what was given to us in our initial packet...how inefficient. Let's just have one list and stop wasting paper and time! She was generally happy that we had started to get some of the requirements checked off the list and was pleasantly surprised about one of my previous employers.
I used to work at Jockey (yup, the undies) and the owner of the company was adopted into the family that owns it. Her legacy to the company was starting a program called Jockey Being Family, supporting post-adoption placement for kids coming through the system. They work with all of the major Wisconsin groups and the Dave Thomas Foundation, so when I volunteered on the teams I learned a lot. In fact, it's because of information that I learned through that program that I was able to find my birthmom who lives in another state.
Okay, back from my tangent. So now...more and more paperwork. Ugh! However, on the brightside we can now get scheduled for the 9 hours of training that's required. Thankfully there are lots of choices in the next few months because we tend to have a busy schedule! And another hopeful moment was finding out that 60% of kids coming through the system are in sibling groups, which we are open to, and that there is a heavy need for FP for those kiddos.
