Selecting OBGYN

Hello. I am new to this forum, and new to pregnancy (I am 3.5 weeks with my first!). I need to select an OBGYN (I don't currently have a gynocologist) and a hospital, but my husband and I don't want to ask for recommendations from family, friends, or neighbors because we don't want to tell our news yet. That makes it hard to get advice!

We live near Frederick, Maryland / Germantown, Maryland and we are wondering if anyone can recommend a good OBGYN.

Also, which hospitals are best for maternity? Is Frederick Memorial Hospital good? Which would you recommend? What would you say is the maximum distance from home that we should consider for a good hospital?

We appreciate any help and suggestions that you can provide. Thank you!

You may want to try posting on the local board on the bump, although some of them are really inactive.

Can you not ask your friends/family for OBGYN recommendations?  You should be seeing one anyway on a regular basis whether or not you're trying to get pregnant or already pregnant.  I think asking for a OB/GYN rec is totally normal.

Thanks for the replies. I've reposted on the local board, but nothing yet. We'll ask someplace else... :)
  • You could always call your GP and ask for a recommendation.

  • Hospitals are rated by US News and World Report, so that's a good place to start, at least. I'm also in MD, but you're still a little far from me (I'll be delivering in Baltimore).
