Formula ??

Anyone else's LO taking similac alimentum? How are they doing on it? The pedi switched him to alimentum last tues he just really seems to hate it! We have an appointment with the doctor for a follow up and ill see what he says. It's helped with his gas and spit up but getting him to take seems so hard:(

Re: Formula ??

  • My first ended up with Alimentum. We tried similac Advanced which gave her diarrhea, then we tried Similac sensitive which made her not poop and gave her terrible gases. Then we tried the Soy, which she didn't take and still had bowel issues, and finally the Alimentum! It smells awful and she struggled taking to it at first, but it was the best thing for her. All her issues went away! She was drinking it for the first 6 months and then we went back to the sensitive and she did fine. Good luck! Just give it some time.

  • we just switched to Alimentum today! we were on Enfamil Gentlease then Similac Soy and now Alimentum. so far, DD is doing much better on this. she's taking it no problem and it's really helped with her reflux, which her pedi thinks is from a milk/soy allergy. her pedi did say that it doesn't taste as good as other formulas so some babies won't take it well but luckily DD does.

do you have the premixed formula? it has recommendations on the side. Alimentum's same category include NeoSure and Diarrhea.

Alimentium is listed with the other two as their special care formulas, but they're all very different.
For example, we are on similac neosure, which is made for premature babies.

I'm currently bf, but may be making the switch to formula due to her milk protein allergy. My LO will need the Alimentum formula. My DH first bought the Enfamil Nutramigen because he read the label and it said for cows milk allergies. When I told him he bought the wrong one (pedi said Alimentum) we did some research online and from what I could find, they seem the same. The Similac Alimentum label says "for protein sensitivity" while the other says milk allergies. Not sure if it's just Enfamil vs Similac or there is a bigger difference. I plan to ask my pedi about it.

I also read that one tastes better than the other. I believe the nutramigen was the one that has sugar so some babies take it better? Could be wrong, as these were just reviews.

My pedi said either or was fine and they are both meant for milk/protien allergies. I am noticing that LO is not a fan of the alimentum. He won't do more than an oz and half where he used to gulp down 3 oz of the gentlease. I might try the enfamil one if taste is indeed a factor.
