May 2014 Moms

Ugh. Gonna whine for a second.

Saw maternal/fetal today and everything is good with baby - she looks so cute and her anatomy is looking great!

However, I found out that my cervix is super short and I'm now thisclose to permanent bed rest. They're still allowing me to teach as long as I keep my feet up all day, which is easy to do since I'm a high school teacher and always have an aide with me or am co-teaching with another teacher. What will be difficult for me is not doing anything for myself. I've prided myself on being pretty self-sufficient throughout the pregnancy and I already know I'm going to have a hard time sucking it up and asking for people to do things for me. I'm choreographing the school musical and we are in our final few weeks before the show, so I'll be relying on my strong dancers to demonstrate for me whether or not I am there. Thank God DH is willing to do anything I need at home so I can rest, my colleagues and bosses at work are being super accommodating, and my students in and out of the classroom are working hard to keep things easy on me - I'm really lucky and blessed to have such a good support system.

Obviously, I will do ANYTHING to keep this LO cooking as long as possible so she is as healthy as she can be, I'm just bummed that I can't be as active as I'm used to. In the meantime, I think I'll keep looking at her sweet face!

  • I hope she stays cooking as long as possible!!
  • How short was it?

    I was dx'ed at 24 with a cervix of 1.6. I am 32 weeks. Still going strong.
2.0 - 28 weeks. That makes me feel better, and I'm glad that you're still doing well! Are you still able to work and such?

  • Sending prayers your way.keep that baby cooking.
  • Fx for you! Beautiful girl :)
  • No, I was put on full bedrest. There is no light duty for my job (RN).

Did u have to quit your job? I'm scared I will be put on bed rest and I'm an RN also. I know every place has a different policy but I'm scared if they tell me I can't work, I won't get maternity leave. I looked at my handbook and it said employees only get 12 weeks in a calendar year. I'm not due until may 25th so that would take up a huge chunk of that time.
  • FX everything works out okay!
  • Hang in there! I hope baby stays put for several more weeks!

  • That has to be a big adjustment when you're used to being on the go a lot and being really independent. Take it easy and hang in there! FX that baby stays put.

  • Thanks for the T&Ps, ladies! I know that I'm pretty lucky and lots of other gals have it way worse than I do. Just had to throw a mini pity party for myself. I'm good now and will do what I need to do for LO. Better to be proactive than reactive, right?

  • Sorry to hear you've been put on bed rest. It's been hard for me too. I hope you're able to keep baby cooking by taking it easy. Fingers crossed for you!
  • I'm sorry. I know it's frustrating not to be able to do what you want. Is the Crohns still doing ok?

Thanks for asking! Crohn's is still doing just fine. I really have been feeling awesome, so that's why this news is so surprising. Had I known there was a cervical issue, I would have started to take it easy much earlier. I'm glad they caught it when they did, though!
